Big Ten women’s hoops is in full swing today as eight teams are in action. No. 13 Penn State kicked off today’s slate with a 71-52 home loss to No. 1 Connecticut. LINCOLN, Neb. — The credentials of the Michigan State defense have been well-chronicled in 2013. We’ve all heard and seen the numbers recited. The unit entered today’s game No. 1 in the nation in total defense (210.2 ypg), No. 1 in rushing defense (43.4 ypg), No. 1 in pass efficiency defense (90.3 rating), No. 1 in first downs defense (12.7 pg) … and on and on it goes.

It isn’t often that a field goal can be called wild, but that’s just what Michigan’s last-second kick was at the end of regulation Saturday. Trailing 9-6 and with the clock inching close to zero following a Jeremy Gallon reception, the Wolverines rushed their field goal unit onto the field and somehow managed to get the snap off. The kick, Brendan Gibbons nailed it to send the game to overtime.
Wisconsin entered Saturday averaging 280 rushing yards this season, which ranked second in the Big Ten (10th in FBS). The Badgers just about doubled that total with a 2013 FBS-high 554 rushing yards in their 51-3 rout of Indiana at Camp Randall Stadium.
