You don’t have to tell Purdue’s Rapheal Davis that this has been a disappointing season. He’s living it. And, it’s not much fun. But the sophomore guard is soldiering on as the losses mount and the hope dwindles in West Lafayette.
I officially have given up trying to figure out this Iowa team. One moment, the Hawkeyes can take you breath away. In another, they can leave you gasping for air. Last night was one of those nights, as Iowa allowed 95 points in a loss to a Minnesota team that scored a combined 95 in its previous two games. The defensive lapse in the Barn was exasperating. Iowa has now lost two games in a row for the first time this season. How good is this team?
Minnesota propelled itself back into the field of 68 with a decisive win over Iowa at home. The Gopher defense has been much-maligned this season (this is the second-worst defense in the Big Ten), but that doesn’t matter when you shoot 58 percent from 3 and 63 percent on 2s.
We decided to have a little fun providing a preview to this year’s B1G Wrestling Championships on March 8-9 at Wisconsin. BTN wrestling analyst Jim Gibbons, an NCAA champion both as a wrestler and coach at Iowa State, will break down one weight class a day, and pick a winner, starting today through March 7. First up, the 165-pound weight class.

Host Michigan leads the 2014 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships after Day 1. The Wolverines amassed 80 points Wednesday and lead second-place Ohio State (64) by 16 points. Penn State (62), Indiana (60) and Wisconsin (58) round out the top 5. See the full standings in this post.
There might not be a more entertaining half in the Big Ten this season than the one Iowa and Minnesota put on in the first 20 minutes Tuesday. The halftime score: 51-47, Minnesota. The team’s field goal percentages: Iowa (50 percent); Minnesota (67 percent, including 75 percent from distance). The stars: Devyn Marble (19 points on 7-11 FGs); Austin Hollins (18 points on 8-8 FGs). Watch the guards match each other shot for shot.
