Cody Campbell

Cody Campbell, the most interesting man in the dugout

Minnesota was eliminated from the Big Ten baseball tourney Thursday afternoon, and that’s bad news for fans of entertaining dugout fun. In case you missed it late Wednesday night, Minnesota freshman pitcher Cody Campbell hijacked coach John Anderson’s BTN dugout interview by getting a fake tattoo drawn on his right arm in the background of the shot. In Thursday’s loss to Iowa, Campbell and his wild beard stole the show. Michigan and Nebraska open Super regional action Thursday night, at No. 8 Florida State and No. 2 Alabama, respectively. Minnesota, making its Super Regional debut, opens Saturday night at No. 1 Oregon. To preview the three series, BTN.com tracked down BTN analyst Garland Cooper, the Big Ten’s all-time home run leader and lone three-time conference player of the year. The former Northwestern star played in two WCWS, so she knows what Super Regional

Dienhart: Nebraska's 2014 schedule analysis

Hopes are high in Lincoln for the program’s first conference championship since 1999. The defense looks like it could be the strongest part of Bo Pelini’s seventh Nebraska team. The front seven looks especially stout. The offense has some great building blocks, paced by a nice collection of running backs and receivers. Yes, the o-line needs to develop and Tommy Armstrong needs to take the next step in his development as a quarterback. Still, there’s a lot to like about the 2014 Huskers. The schedule will make Nebraska’s quest for a title difficult. There are three tough Big Ten road

Cody Campbell gets fake 'Mom' tattoo during game

Minnesota freshman Cody Campbell has rightfully earned the reputation of being the “team jokester.” And make no mistake, it’s not just his shaggy black beard or pair of thick black glasses with a gold plate on the top that’s grabbing all the attention. Tracy Smith

Video: Hoosiers videobomb Tracy Smith -- again

Indiana enjoys videobombing head coach Tracy Smith’s BTN dugout interviews. They did it during the season-ending series vs. Minnesota, and they did it in their Big Ten tourney opener Wednesday vs. Iowa, Smith’s first in-game interview since being named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Watch the Hoosiers look very serious behind Smith in this post. Smith’s reaction to learning his team was videobombing him again? “Are they doing it again?” Smith said. “They’re doing it again, yeah,” BTN play-by-play announcer Kevin Kugler responded. Smith chuckled and said, “Oh boy!” Baseball is all about being loose and having fun, and

The NBA Draft combine is complete, the lottery results are set, and that means that NBA Mock Drafts will be appearing even more frequently throughout your Twitter timelines. There is plenty of Big Ten love throughout some of these mock drafts, as names such as Noah Vonleh, Gary Harris, Nik Stauskas and Adreian Payne have all appeared in the lottery of several well-respected mock drafts. We took a look at where these Big Ten stars appear in six different NBA Mock Drafts, from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo! Sports, Fox Sports, CBS Sports and the Sporting News. Here are the results:

Braxton Miller

No surprise: Braxton Miller ranked No. 1 Big Ten player

The Big Ten’s best football player? It has to be Braxton Miller, the two-time reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, right? Right. The Lincoln Journal Star’s Brian Christopherson is no fool, and he recently ranked the dual-threat quarterback No. 1 in his gallery of the Big Ten’s top 10 football players. No argument here. It’s almost impossible for anyone – even Michigan fans – to argue the point. A third straight Big Ten superlative and Chicago Tribune Silver Football aren’t out of the question in Miller’s final campaign. Nor is a trip to New York for the Heisman

Dienhart: Minnesota's 2014 schedule analysis

Jerry Kill has Minnesota on the rise. His win total has improved in each of his three seasons in the Twin Cities, going from three, to six to eight victories with bowls in each of the last two seasons. The best looks like it is yet to come. The Golden Gophers have a chance for more success with seven starters back on both sides of the ball. What’s it all mean? Minnesota may be a dark horse in the Big Ten West division. This is a team that’s developed toughness on offense, but the passing game needs more pop. The

Where B1G teams rank in Preseason Power Index

Now that spring football is in the books, we are slowly starting to see preseason rankings trickle in for the 2014 season. Our friends over at ESPN recently created an automated set of preseason ratings for every team. The ratings are designed to predict how strong each team will be in the upcoming season. This is calculated using the Football Power Index, which according to ESPN is a predictive measure of team strength that uses the EPA breakdowns that correlate most with future results. The efficiency rankings are the point contributions for the Off/Def/Special Teams units to the team’s opponent-adjusted
