Day 2 of the Big Ten baseball tourney is in the books, and it was another day full of close games. The results: No. 3 Illinois nipped No. 7 Ohio State, No. 8 Iowa dropped No. 4 Minnesota, No. 2 Nebraska edged No. 6 Michigan State and No. 1 Indiana took down No. 5 Michigan.
For the second straight day, the single-day attendance record at the Big Ten tournament was set, with 11,756 fans coming through gates at TD Ameritrade Park on Thursday.
Minnesota was eliminated from the Big Ten baseball tourney Thursday afternoon, and that’s bad news for fans of entertaining dugout fun. In case you missed it late Wednesday night, Minnesota freshman pitcher Cody Campbell hijacked coach John Anderson’s BTN dugout interview by getting a fake tattoo drawn on his right arm in the background of the shot. In Thursday’s loss to Iowa, Campbell and his wild beard stole the show.
It’s Super Regional time for softball, and three Big Ten teams are one best-of-3 series away from advancing to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Michigan and Nebraska open Super regional action Thursday night, at No. 8 Florida State and No. 2 Alabama, respectively. Minnesota, making its Super Regional debut, opens Saturday night at No. 1 Oregon.
Hopes are high in Lincoln for the program’s first conference championship since 1999. The defense looks like it could be the strongest part of Bo Pelini’s seventh Nebraska team. The front seven looks especially stout. The offense has some great building blocks, paced by a nice collection of running backs and receivers.

Minnesota freshman Cody Campbell has rightfully earned the reputation of being the “team jokester.” And make no mistake, it’s not just his shaggy black beard or pair of thick black glasses with a gold plate on the top that’s grabbing all the attention.
