Oregon State stifles No. 13 Wisconsin in 10-7 upset

Sean Mannion threw for 276 yards and a touchdown, Oregon State’s defense smothered Wisconsin’s Montee Ball and the Beavers upset the No. 13 Badgers 10-7 on Saturday. Mannion connected with Brandin Cooks on a 20-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half to give the Beavers a 10-0 lead then turned it over to the Oregon State (1-0) defense that forced two turnovers and held Ball to 61 yards rushing.

3rd Quarter Recap: Oregon State 10, Wisconsin 0

Oregon State’s defensive line went crazy in the third, penetrating Wisconsin’s backfield so often that the Badgers finished with minus-23 yards, and the Beavers now lead 10-0. Oregon State opened up the lead, 10-0, after Sean Mannion and Brandin Cooks combined for a 20-yard touchdown to end an 11-play, 86-yard drive.

2nd Quarter Recap: Oregon State 3, Wisconsin 0

Oregon State’s Colby Prince led the offense in the second quarter. He caught two passes for 37 yards, and the Beavers now lead 3-0.

There were more punts than points in the first quarter and the game is tied 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. With neither team able to move the ball, there were four punts in the quarter.

Revsine's Numbers: Week 2 figures to be intriguing

While there’s always a certain excitement surrounding opening weekend, last week’s slate in the Big Ten left quite a bit to be desired. Outside of Michigan’s match-up with Alabama and Michigan State’s battle with Boise State, very few of the games elicited much in the way of excitement. That is far from the case in Week 2, where I’d venture to say as many as eight or nine games carry a fairly significant level of intrigue.
