Ohio State blanks Northern Michigan, 2-0

Travis Statchuk and Max McCormick each scored a goal for Ohio State as the Buckeyes beat Northern Michigan 2-0 on Friday night. With the win, Brady Hjelle got his second shutout of the season. The two teams face off again Saturday night at 7:05pm ET and can be seen on the Big Ten Digital Network.

Zeller, No. 1 Indiana blow away North Dakota State

Cody Zeller scored 22 points and Remy Abell added a career-high 14 to lead No. 1 Indiana past pesky North Dakota State 87-61 on Monday night. This was no typical game for the Hoosiers (2-0), whose offense struggled to get in sync against the foul-prone Bison (1-1). It all seemed to be part of North Dakota State’s plan.

Nebraska downs Southern in Miles' debut

Brandon Ubel had 17 of his 21 points in the second half Sunday as Nebraska opened the season with a 66-55 win over Southern in Tim Miles’ coaching debut with the Cornhuskers. Dylan Talley added 17 points and Ray Gallegos had 16 for Nebraska. Ubel also had 11 rebounds.

Craft, Ohio State drop Albany, 82-60, in opener

Deshaun Thomas scored 13 of his 19 points in a 17-2 run to end the half and Aaron Craft poured in a career-high 20 points to lead No. 4 Ohio State to an 82-60 victory over Albany on Sunday in the Buckeyes’ belated season opener.

Boilers bounce back, blow away Hofstra

Anthony Johnson scored 14 points, including a four-point play, to help Purdue defeat Hofstra 83-54 Sunday in the 2K Sports Classic. Sandi Marcius scored 11 points and Ronnie Johnson had nine points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Boilermakers (1-1), who bounced back from a season-opening 70-65 loss to Bucknell.

Wisconsin starts slow, recovers to drill UW-Oshkosh

UW-Oshkosh scored the game’s first seven points, but Wisconsin quickly recovered to cruise to a 96-44 exhibition victory Wednesday night at the Kohl Center. Jared Berggren scored 16 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, to pace a quintet of Badgers in double figures. Ryan Evans tallied a double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman point guard George Marshall chipped in 11 points and committed only one turnover.

Nebraska shuts down Midland, 68-40, in exhibition

In its final exhibition game at the Devaney Center and its first action under new coach Tim Miles, Nebraska took down Midland, 68-40, Wednesday night. Six Huskers scored at least eight points, led by Dylan Talley’s 10. Andre Almeida and David Rivers contributed nine points apiece, while Brandon Ubel and Sergej Vucetic both chipped in eight. Nebraska limited Midland to 28 percent from the field (15-of-53).

The 2012 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament got underway Wednesday at Lakeside Field. Gophers take down Southwest Baptist, 86-59

In its exhibition finale, Minnesota dropped 3-happy Southwest Baptist, 86-59, Monday night at Williams Arena. The Bearcats attempted a whopping 36 3-pointers, hitting just 10 on the night (27.8 percent), while the Gophers shot 53 percent from the field. Rodney Williams scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds and swatted two shots, both game highs, while Joe Coleman put in a game-high 15 points.

Robinson III, Michigan drop SVSU in exhibition finale

Two exhibition games down, Glenn Robinson III sure is living up to the hype. The talented freshman scored a game-high 17 points to lead Michigan past Saginaw Valley State, 76-48, in the team’s exhibition finale Monday night at Crisler Center.
