Women's hoops roundup: Lucas, Lady Lions roll

No. 3 Minnesota rallies past No. 15 Oregon State

The third-ranked Minnesota wrestling team rallied past No. 15 Oregon State, 21-18, Saturday night at the Sports Pavilion. The match came down to the heavyweight battle, and it was Minnesota’s Tony Nelson notching a double-overtime victory over Oregon State’s Chad Hanke. Watch our interview with Nelson now. Gophers cruise, Wildcats fall on Friday

Behind a 29-point performance from Rachel Banham, the University of Minnesota (8-3) women’s basketball team cruised to an 87-49 victory over visiting UMKC (4-6) Friday night at Williams Arena. The sophomore made a career-high 11 field goals, including five from three-point range, while adding seven rebounds, five assists and a block in the win. Minnesota Tops Denver, 74-51

The University of Minnesota (7-3) women’s basketball team snapped Denver’s three-game win streak Wednesday night with a 74-51 win over the visiting Pioneers (3-4) at Williams Arena. Sophomore Rachel Banham posted 21 points, seven rebounds, a career-high seven assists and four steals to lead the Golden Gophers, while junior Micaëlla Riché added 19 points, six rebounds, a block and a steal in the winning effort. Ohio State sweeps No. 19 Northern Michigan

Third-period goals from juniors Alex Szczechura and Chris Crane lifted the Ohio State men’s hockey team to a 4-2 victory and series sweep of No. 19 Northern Michigan on Saturday at Value City Arena. Gophers, Wildcats both win in volleyball

In volleyball action on Friday night, Minnesota beat Nebraska in five sets (12-25, 25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 19-21). The Gophers win puts them in a tie with Nebraska for second place in the Big Ten.
