Yes, that same defense that at times has been maligned this season—and allowed 206 yards rushing today–took this opportunity to stand and deliver when it mattered most, turning back Wisconsin in overtime to secure a 21-14 win. “I’m honored to be the coach of an 11-0 Ohio State team, especially one that’s very deserving,” said Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. “We have a saying and I just shared it with them that a team that refuses […]

Carlos Hyde scored on a 2-yard run in overtime Saturday, giving No. 6 Ohio State a 21-14 victory over Wisconsin and keeping the Buckeyes’ hopes of a perfect season alive. The Buckeyes (11-0, 7-0) clinched the Leaders Division title outright with the win. But they are ineligible for the postseason as part of their punishment for NCAA violations under former coach Jim Tressel, and the best they can hope for is to end the year unbeaten and to maybe capture the AP Top 25 title. Ball’s touchdown, the 78th of his career, tied the FBS record, held by Travis Prentice. Ohio State’s Carlos Hyde ran for 22 yards and one touchdown in the quarter. The Buckeyes expanded their lead to 14-0 thanks to a seven-play, 69-yard drive that ended when Hyde ran 15 yards to paydirt.
Week 12 is upon us, and the questions persist for each school. Chief among them this week centers around Wisconsin quarterback Curt Phillips and his ability to pass the football against Ohio State. If Phillips can’t chuck it effectively, the Badgers may have a difficult time beating the Buckeyes. He certainly didn’t need to throw much last week at Indiana. But he likely will vs. Ohio State.
All eyes will be on Madison, Wis., where No. 6 Ohio State plays Wisconsin in a Week 12 that lacks compelling storylines. The Buckeyes are 10-0 and in search of perfection. The last time Ohio State came to Wisconsin, it got drummed, 31-18, in 2010.
