Jeff Budzien kicked a 27-yard field goal with 7:30 remaining, and Northwestern was able to hold on to this fourth-quarter lead, beating Michigan State 23-20 on Saturday. Trevor Siemian threw for 165 yards, including a 41-yard pass to Dan Vitale that helped set up the winning kick.

Aaron Burbridge had a productive quarter for Michigan State. He caught three passes for 45 yards and one touchdown, but the Spartans still trail 20-13. Northwestern made the score 13-5 when David Nwabuisi intercepted Andrew Maxwell’s pass and returned it for a touchdown.

Keith Mumphery led Michigan State in the quarter, hauling in two passes for 33 yards, but the Spartans trail 6-5. Dan Conroy’s 35-yard field goal put Michigan State on top 5-3, the finishing touch on a 12-play, 37-yard drive.

In the first quarter, Dion Sims fought back for Michigan State. He caught one pass for 44 yards, but the Spartans trail 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. Michigan State made the score 3-0 when Northwestern failed to convert on fourth-and-5.

The focus this week is on Madison, where Ohio State will try to move to 11-0. Wisconsin has a spot in the Big Ten title game sewn up but would like to win a share of the league title. To have a shot, the Badgers must down the Buckeyes.

Week 12 is upon us, and the questions persist for each school. Chief among them this week centers around Wisconsin quarterback Curt Phillips and his ability to pass the football against Ohio State. If Phillips can’t chuck it effectively, the Badgers may have a difficult time beating the Buckeyes. He certainly didn’t need to throw much last week at Indiana. But he likely will vs. Ohio State.

All eyes will be on Madison, Wis., where No. 6 Ohio State plays Wisconsin in a Week 12 that lacks compelling storylines. The Buckeyes are 10-0 and in search of perfection. The last time Ohio State came to Wisconsin, it got drummed, 31-18, in 2010. The Badgers already have the Leaders Division spot in the Big Ten title game sewn up, but a victory over the Buckeyes would be Wisconsin’s most impressive win of the season and give it momentum.
