During Thursday’s Big Ten Basketball Media Day, first-year Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles had a playful moment with the press. He took out his phone and took a panoramic photo of the media in the room, then posted it to the Internet via his Twitter account @CoachMiles. See the picture and the tweet in the rest of this post. Miles told reporters, “My daughter is 12 and she taught me this funky thing.’” He then proceeded to take the photo by scanning the crowd with his phone. “You guys can all write home and tell all the kids that […]

Sunday’s series finale between the Nebraska baseball team and Cal State Bakersfield was canceled following a long delay. But that doesn’t mean the teams didn’t face off. No, instead of competing inside the lines, the Huskers and Roadrunners used the space between their respective dugout and baseline to host a dance-off and trade creative improvisations. Watch the highly entertaining video in this post. The skits ranged from bowling to curling to riding a roller coaster to sumo wrestling, among several others. It’s unreal footage, and it’s almost impossible to pick a favorite. Props to both teams.
Nebraska is very proud of its state-of-the-art Pinnacle Bank Arena, scheduled to open for the 2013-14 basketball season, and it’s easy to see why. The $179-million facility is a significant upgrade from the Huskers’ current home, the Bob Deveaney Sports Center. Among the perks, it includes 36 Founders and Executive Suites, 900 club seats and 73 concession points of sale. Read more about the arena at Huskers.com. Said Nebraska Associate Athletic Director Paul Meyer: “I think this gives us a chance, as a basketball program, to put ourselves on the map.” Watch a N’Side Nebraska feature on the arena now.
Right before halftime of Nebraska’s game against Iowa in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday, Nebraska’s Lindsey Moore brought the fans to their feet with a nifty last-second shot as the Huskers cut the Hawkeyes’ lead to 36-33. The junior guard took an Iowa turnover, dribbled up the floor and past defenders, then headed toward the center of the court before launching a long bomb to beat the buzzer. We’ve been building up our “Did You See This?” archive all year. If you liked Moore’s fantastic shot, you’ll want to see all of the others.
Brandon Richardson isn’t the first player to go into the expensive seats at Mackey Arena this season, and he might not be the last. In the first half of Nebraska’s game at Purdue on Wednesday night, Richardson went to save a ball near the sideline and had to jump the Huskers bench in the process. Once in the air, Richardson realized he had nowhere to land and finally came down on a railing. It looked painful, but luckily he was OK. Watch Richardson’s hard landing now. Earlier in the season, Terone Johnson went into the seats, as did Dru Antrhop.
For a day, Nebraska did it all and showed what kind of team it can be when everything comes together. It came in Saturday’s decisive victory over struggling Illinois, and Caleb Walker’s ridiculous one-handed alley-oop highlighted it all. The thunderous second-half jam — listen to the rim! — was a thing of beauty. In transition, Walker beat the Illini down the floor and was rewarded with a perfect pass toward the rim from point guard Bo Spencer. Watch the terrific alley-oop now.
During Saturday afternoon’s Michigan State-Nebraska men’s hoops games, BTN cameras gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at Nebraska’s new Hendricks Training Complex. The 84,000 square-foot facility is home to the men’s and women’s hoops teams and wrestling team, and it is remarkable. Watch our quick feature of the impressive complex that cost nearly $19 million now. It’s safe to say the Huskers are taking basketball, both men’s and women’s, very seriously after watching this piece.
