Six Big Ten teams make NCAA women's tourney

Six Big Ten women’s basketball teams earned invites to the NCAA tourney, it was announced Monday night. Big Ten regular-season champ Penn State leads the way, with a No. 3 seed, while Iowa (No. 9), Michigan (No. 8), Michigan State (No. 5), Nebraska (No. 6) and Big Ten tourney champ Purdue (No. 4) round out the the Big Ten contingent.

UConn eliminates Penn State, 77-59

(AP) Bria Hartley and Connecticut ran right past Penn State’s high-powered offense and into another regional final. Hartley scored 20 points and Kelly Faris added 15 to help No. 1 seed UConn beat fourth-seeded Penn State 77-59 on Sunday in the Kingston Regional semifinals.

Lucas leads Lady Lions past LSU

(AP) Maggie Lucas scored 30 points, three short of a career high, and fourth-seeded Penn State moved on to the third round of the women’s NCAA tournament with a 90-80 victory over No. 5 seed LSU on Tuesday night.

South Carolina takes down Purdue

(AP) South Carolina rebuilt its program with a defensive philosophy, and it sure paid off on Monday night. Markeshia Grant scored 21 points and the fifth-seeded Gamecocks forced 20 turnovers in a 72-61 victory over No. 4 seed Purdue in the second round of the NCAA women’s tournament.

PSU advances, four others bounced in Round 1

It was a rough day Sunday for Big Ten women’s basketball teams as the conference went 1-4 in NCAA first-round games. Big Ten regular season champ Penn State was the lone victor, ousting UTEP, and joins Big Ten tourney champ Purdue, which won Saturday, in Round 2. NCAA Women: Purdue wins, Michigan State falls

Michgan State and Purdue played Saturday in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Becky Burke scored 14 points, Shawnta’ Dyer had 13, and seventh-seeded Louisville beat 10th-seeded Michigan State 67-55, and you can read more at MSUspartans.com.
