With the major league tournaments about to start, let’s take one last look at some mock brackets to see where the Big Ten rates. Indiana remains a No. 1 seed in the four brackets I checked. And there’s nothing that can happen in the Big Ten tourney—or elsewhere, for that matter—that will change that. And a spot in the cozy Midwest Region (Dayton, Ohio; then Indianapolis) also is basically a given, too, no matter what the Hoosiers do in Chicago. Michigan and Michigan State are Nos. 2 or 3 in each bracket. It’s difficult to differentiate between the two, honestly.
It’s time for my weekly check of some mock brackets to see where the Big Ten ranks. The four brackets I examined all have seven Big Ten teams in the Big Dance. And that looks like a pretty solid number right up until Selection Sunday on March 17. Iowa likely saw any shred of hope it possessed at grabbing an at-large spot vanish when it inexplicably lost at Nebraska on Saturday. Some observations from the brackets: Indiana is a consensus No. 1; and apparently a consensus No. 1 overall seed, getting sweet placement in the Midwest. Michigan is a No. […]

It’s time to check the mock brackets to see how the Big Ten rates for March Madness. The league holds steady with seven bids; the Big East also has seven in each bracket and as many as eight in some. The big change from last week is the ascension of Michigan State to a No. 1 seed in some brackets following its big win last week over Michigan, which was a No. 1 seed. The Spartans have won 11 of their last 12 games. The lone loss in that stretch was 75-70 at Indiana.
It’s time to look at the various mock brackets to see how the Big Ten is being forecast for the Big Dance. All four mock brackets that I check each week are in accord by having seven Big Ten teams in the NCAA tourney. The only other conference with as many is the Big East. The four mock brackets—entering the week–have Indiana and Michigan as No. 1 seeds. Michigan State is a No. 2 in every bracket but ESPN’s, which has the Spartans as a No. 3.
The weekly mock brackets are out, and the Big Ten looks primed for seven bids—at least for now, as Illinois seems to be hanging by a thread. The Fighting Illini appear in three of the four mock brackets I check each week. Each analyst also has two Big Ten teams as No. 1 seeds, with Indiana and Michigan leading a group that also includes Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota and Wisconsin in each bracket. Here’s a look at the brackets.
