It was a busy afternoon of Big Ten football action, with six games during the middle block. The results weren’t exactly what the Big Ten had hoped for, either, as it went 3-3 after opening the day 2-1 in the early games. Read my snap reactions to the afternoon games in this post. Live on BTN/BTN2Go: Northwestern vs. Vanderbilt. Also live: Nebraska vs. UCLA. And at 10:30 p.m. ET, it’s Illinois vs. Arizona State. Michigan State 41, Central Michigan 7 1. Much was made of the inconsistent effort of Spartan receivers in the opening win over Boise State. The Spartans (2-0) scored 10 points in the final minute of the first half to take a 24-0 lead. Michigan State was playing at Central Michigan (1-1) for the first time, part of a decade-long series of games against the Chippewas, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. Le’Veon Bell had 70 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns, shouldering a lighter load after carrying 44 times for 210 yards in Michigan State’s opener against Boise State. Michigan State finished with 62 yards through the air and 71 on the ground in the quarter. The Spartans opened up the lead, 31-0, after Andrew Maxwell found Bennie Fowler open for a seven-yard touchdown pass to end a five-play, 65-yard drive. Michigan State’s drive was highlighted by Maxwell’s 48-yard pass. The Spartans made their lead 34-0 when Dan Conroy drilled a 26-yard field goal on the last play of a nine-play, 68-yard drive. Michigan State used Larry Caper’s 39-yard run to fuel the drive.
