Minnesota junior-to-be Joe Coleman was granted a release from his scholarship, the Gophers announced Wednesday afternoon.  Coleman, who averaged 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in two seasons in Minneapolis, will seek a transfer. The guard will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.

When talking most improved player, the Big Ten boasts plenty of candidates. There are proven guys who have taken their game to another level, such as Indiana’s Victor Oladipo, and there are previously unproven guys who have made the most of extra playing time, such as Ohio State’s Shannon Scott.

The Big Ten Conference released its Men’s Basketball Players of the Week for Jan. 9-15 action. It was a crazy week of action that saw several upsets, including Northwestern handing Michigan State its first Big Ten loss and first loss in it last 16 games.
