This is not the news former Ohio State basketball star Jared Sullinger wanted to hear — especially a little less than two weeks before the 2012 NBA Draft. On Monday, ESPN.com reported that Sullinger was medically flagged by NBA doctors who are concerned about his back. According to the report, Sullinger, who was expected to be a lottery pick, underwent a series of tests at the draft combine last week and NBA doctors are advising their teams not to draft him in the first round.
BTN’s Jim Jackson caught up with six Big Ten names working out at the NBA’s pre-draft combine in Chicago. Jackson talked to Jared Sullinger, William Buford, Draymond Green, Jordan Taylor, Meyers Leonard, and Robbie Hummel. If you’re running games down at the gym, that’s a pretty good first six right there. Sullinger talks about getting into NBA shape this spring while Hummel tells Jackson about his numerous workouts and how his knees are feeling so far. Watch all of the interviews down in this post.
No one was shocked when Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger announced Wednesday that he will turn pro after two seasons in Columbus. He’s ready. In fact, some felt Sullinger was ready after his freshman season, when he averaged 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds for a team that won the Big Ten and entered the NCAA tourney as the No. 1 overall seed. Alas, the Buckeyes lost in the Sweet 16 to Kentucky. But the 6-9, 265-pound Columbus native returned for his sophomore campaign, saying he wanted to win a national title. Sullinger didn’t disappoint by averaging 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds […]

Ohio State’s season came to an end in the national semifinal in a close loss to Kansas. The Buckeyes led for the vast majority of this game, and most will probably remember the game as a great comeback by Kansas, but the truth is that Kansas played a much better game than Ohio State. Consider that the Buckeyes were held to 32 percent shooting on two-pointers for the game. Further, OSU was held to rebounding just a quarter of the available offensive rebounds. This wasn’t entirely unexpected–that’s the sort of thing that happens when one faces both the best shotblocker […]

Ohio State was our preseason pick for the cream of the conference, and, despite a bumpy Big Ten slate that left them sharing the title, the Buckeyes are now the last B1G standing. The Sweet Sixteen was rather cruel to Big Ten teams not from Columbus; let’s start with the happy news and work our way through the rest. Ohio State first handled a resilient Cincinnati squad with a magnificent offensive display, shooting 47 percent on threes and taking excellent care of the basketball. The Buckeyes posted the second highest efficiency allowed by Cincinnati all season, and it propelled them […]

Josh: It’s time to reflect on another season of Big Ten hoops. I think the rest of college basketball has finally taken notice of something that’s been true for the past 18 months or so–the Big Ten is the best conference in college basketball. Still, you look at the conference today, you see two great teams, 3 pretty darn good teams, a team good enough to make the Dance, and then mediocrity. Heck, even a couple of pretty bad teams. I mean, it’s hard to say the conference underachieved, but here goes–the conference underachieved. Sure, this is still the best […]
