Jared Berggren is compiling quite the highlight reel in his senior season. There was this second jam in a back-to-back sequence, this posterization of Victor Oladipo, and this drive and finish at Iowa, among several others. To little surprise, Berggren struck again in Saturday’s overtime win over No. 3 Michigan. Watch the And-1 dunk now and see Ben Brust‘s ridiculous OT-forcing 3-pointer at the buzzer in this post.
BTN analyst Tim Doyle has been repping Jared Berggren’s underrated athleticism for some time now. To be fair, it’s pretty easy to do so after the Wisconsin senior threw down the second dunk in this clip vs. Penn State. Berggren flashed the athleticism again in Tuesday’s upset at No. 2 Indiana, posterizing Victor Oladipo, a guy used to being on the other end of the poster. Watch the dunk now and see Twitter reaction to the slam in this post. [ RELATED: Want to embed a BTN.com video?
It seems ludicrous that a Geek would pose such a question concerning the No. 11-ranked team according to Ken Pomeroy, but it’s fair. While the Buckeyes still look good in the computer’s eyes, but the computer’s eyes aren’t going to determine things like whether Ohio State will be invited to the Dance and how it will be seeded. So far on the season, OSU has faced three quality opponents (Duke, Kansas, and Illinois), and they’ve lost them all. In each of those three losses, the Buckeyes were led by Deshaun Thomas, who didn’t get much help from his teammates.
Illinois’ weaknesses were exposed in a road loss against a mediocre Purdue team last night. The concerning thing isn’t so much that Illinois lost—Purdue isn’t a terrible team, just a terrible offensive team—it’s that it lost to Purdue despite hitting 10 three-pointers (38% from three on the night). Thus, it appears the “Illinois wins when it shoots well” maxim is incorrect. This team can shoot well, and still lose. The fact of the matter is that Illinois is a mediocre defensive team, and especially awful on the defensive glass. Purdue grabbed 44 percent of its misses—including four off of missed […]

Wisconsin held a small lead late in the game on Thursday night, but Penn State wouldn’t go away for most of the second half. And then the 6-foot-10 Jared Berggren delivered two smashing dunks. On the first, he took a nice bounce pass from Mike Bruesewitz. Then later, with the Nittany Lions closing in, Berggren took a pass inside, spun around his defender, and slammed home an emphatic dunk with one hand that all but sewed up the game for the Badgers. Berggren finished with 13 points as Wisconsin won, 60-51. Here’s Berggren’s year to date.
With Saturday’s win over Michigan, Purdue has seemingly punched its ticket to the Dance. At 9-7 in conference play, the Boilermakers are probably right where most expected them to finish this season–still solidly in the field of 68, but not a serious contender for the conference championship. But how they got to this point is very unexpected.
