Penn State grabs win at Northwestern

Jermaine Marshall and D.J. Newbill each scored 18 points to lead Penn State to a 66-59 victory over Northwestern on Thursday night. Penn State (10-19, 2-15 Big Ten), last in the 12-team conference, scored the game’s first 12 points, withstood a Northwestern surge, then pulled away in the second half. The Nittany Lions’ only other conference win was at home against No. 7 Michigan on Feb. 27.

Nebraska holds off Minnesota, 53-51, in Devaney swan song

Cody Zeller overcame a sluggish start to score 22 points and Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell added a career-high 19 as No. 1 Indiana got past Iowa 73-60 on Saturday night. The Hoosiers (25-4, 13-3 Big Ten) rebounded from this week’s loss to Minnesota. It was no typical night for Indiana’s shooters, who were 38.9 percent from the field and didn’t hit a 3-pointer until the final minute.

Illinois takes down Nebraska, 72-65

Illinois used double-figure scoring from five players to hold off stubborn Nebraska Saturday, 72-65. The Huskers led 57-55 with just over 6 minutes to play. But the Illini (21-9, 8-8 Big Ten) went on a 7-0 run started by a 3-pointer from D.J. Richardson to go up 62-57. They never trailed again.
