But Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III are returning after sensational freshman seasons. The duo made a joint announcement today after helping the team to a 31-8 overall record and 12-6 mark in the Big Ten before helping lead Michigan on a charge to the national championship game, where it lost to Louisville. It was the school’s first trip to the title game since it made consecutive trips in 1992 and 1993.
Michigan State’s hopes to contend for a Big Ten title next season got a boost Thursday when Gary Harris announced he’s coming back for his sophomore season. Michigan announced today that freshmen Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III will hold a 5:30 p.m. ET press conference to announce their decisions. Playing in the NBA is definitely a goal of mine, and something that I’ve always dreamed of, but those dreams can wait for another day,” Harris said in a statement released by the school. “I think additional experience and maturity will be huge in my development as a player.
It didn’t take long for Michigan’s Glenn Robinson III to make an impact in Wednesday’s loss at Penn State. Just more than one minute in, the freshman drove and exploded for a powerful one-handed flush over Ross Travis. As if the dunk wasn’t good enough on its own, Robinson III punctuated it with a little flare at the end – even if it was accidental. Watch the dunk now, and pay close attention to the end as the ball caroms off Robinson III’s head. [ RELATED: Want to embed a BTN.com video?
Glenn Robinson III was mired in a slump entering Sunday’s game versus Penn State. Averaging just 4.5 points and shooting 29 percent in the previous four games, Robinson went a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in Michigan’s 79-71 win.
Take a look around the Big Ten, and you’ll see many of them: freshmen playing big roles for teams. In fact, it has become common for freshmen to come in and not just contribute but grab the starring role. That’s the case at Michigan. The No. 1 team in the nation has arguably the best collection of freshmen in the Big Ten that includes Glenn Robinson III, Nik Stauskas, Mitch McGary, Caris LeVert and Spike Albrecht. The Wolverines quintet is joined by other standout freshmen who are helping make the Big Ten so good this season, including the likes of Wisconsin’s Sam […]

I’ll admit—I’ve never truly forgiven Minnesota for 2010. Back in those days, when the internet was over, it was my opinion that the Gophers should have been contending for a Big Ten championship. I wasn’t even close, as Minnesota finished the season at 9-9, and squeaked into the NCAA Tournament (the Gophers barely had enough time to check into their hotel before Xavier dispatched of them in the first round). I’ve since taken an oath of sorts, which is that I can’t believe in Minnesota until the team sorts out the defense. The Gophers have never been all that good […]
