With the BTN tour bus in State College, Pa., on Monday morning, it was time to seek out Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Hill and have him put his signature on his likeness on the side of the BTN bus. This is the tradition this summer, whereas last year we simply had the players pose for a picture next to their likeness. See the picture of Hill signing the bus in this post.
Throughout the seasons, I answer your Big Ten football and basketball questions in my Big Ten Mailbag. During the BTN summer bus tour, I’m fielding questions along our 3,000-plus mile trek across Big Ten country. We saw Ohio State practice Saturday (recap), and excited Buckeye fans sent me their questions. Read all of my answers to your latest Big Ten questions in this post. If you have a question, send it to me in the box at the bottom of this post or tweet it to me (@BTNTomDienhart). We’re at Penn State practice Monday (preview).
The BTN bus is chugging to Penn State with Columbus, Ohio, in our rear-view mirror. I’m not sure what to expect when we watch Bill O’Brien’s Nittany Lions practice on Monday.
There were many things to watch at Ohio State today in what was as physical a practice as I have seen on our trip. The practice-ending scrimmage had the intensity of a game and featured a lot of hitting. I spent a lot of my attention focused on an offense since in 2011 Ohio State had the worst passing numbers in the Big Ten. Now, Urban Meyer has installed a spread scheme for a team that opened at No. 18 in the AP poll on Saturday.
In what is fast becoming a BTN tradition, Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller beat the heat and signed the BTN Tour bus on our stop in Columbus on Saturday. Last year, the tradition was to take a picture of the players in front of their likeness on the bus. This year, we’re having them sign it. See a picture of Miller putting his autograph on his likeness in this post.
On Saturday, the BTN bus was in Columbus, Ohio, where our crew took in a Buckeyes practice. With the practice and filming complete, it’s time for analyst Gerry DiNardo’s post-practice tweets – a feature he’ll provide after all 12 stops across Big Ten country. Follow @GerryDiNardo. Also, don’t forget to catch the debut of the Ohio State Preview Show at 10 p.m. ET Sunday on BTN/BTN2Go.
Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase moves well, which he showed today in practice. He always has had good feet and is one of the more athletic signal-callers in the Big Ten. He also threw the short pass well, which is key in this spread offense that is predicated on quick decisions and intermediate toss.
The BTN bus heads west to Columbus, Ohio, to check in on Urban Meyer and Ohio State. Yes, the head coach gets billed over the school in this instance, as Meyer was the biggest coaching hire in the offseason. It will be fun to watch the swagger he brings to the field.
The BTN bus tour hit Champaign, Ill., on Friday so our crew could take in Illinois practice. Now that practice and filming of the show is over, it’s time for Gerry DiNardo’s post-practice tweets – a feature he’ll provide after all 12 stops across Big Ten country. You can also find tweets from Dave Revsine and Tom Dienhart in this post. And don’t forget to catch the debut of the Illinois Preview Show at 10 p.m. ET Saturday on BTN/BTN2Go.
There’s a familiar face on the side of the BTN tour bus this summer. It’s that of Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase, the same guy who was featured on the bus last summer. Last year, the tradition was to take a picture of the players in front of their likeness on the bus. This year, we’re having them sign it. See a picture of Scheelhaase putting his autograph on his likeness in this post.
The BTN bus heads to beautiful Champaign, Ill., next to watch Tim Beckman’s first edition of the Illini. Check out the Illinois Preview Show at 10 p.m. ET Saturday on BTN/BTN2Go.
On Thursday, the BTN bus was in Bloomington, Ind., where our crew took in Indiana practice. With the practice and filming complete, it’s time for analyst Gerry DiNardo’s post-practice tweets – a feature he’ll provide after all 12 stops across Big Ten country. See all of DiNardo’s tweets in this post. Also, don’t forget to catch the debut of the Indiana Preview Show at 10 p.m. ET Friday on BTN/BTN2Go.
There is a lot going on at Indiana as Kevin Wilson embarks on his second season in Bloomington coming off a one-win debut. The quarterbacks had their moments, with Tre Roberson running with the first team. His arm is solid and it looks like his touch has improved. He remains a dangerous runner. Cam Coffman also looked good at times. He has a decent body and strong arm. He also showed good feet.
The BTN tour bus was in Bloomington, Ind., on Thursday morning for Indiana practice. As is the tradition this summer, we had the player represented on one of the sides of the bus sign his likeness. That would be running back Stephen Houston, and you can see a picture of him signing the bus in this post.
There was a lot to watch at Purdue’s practice Wednesdat as Danny Hope prepares his fourth Boilermaker squad. It was a warm, sunny day in West Lafayette, testing everyone’s resolve.
