Zach Mezger is not your typical Indiana baseball fan. The Bloomington High School North student is known as the “No. 1 IU baseball fan,” is a close friend with head coach Tracy Smith’s family, and has delivered a couple postgame speeches. Sunday, he had the honor of throwing out the first pitch in the Hoosiers’ inaugural home finale at Bart Kaufman Field.

Saturday’s Big Ten softball tournament semifinals featured a pair of highlight catches. The first one came in the first game, when Wisconsin third baseman Michelle Mueller battled the sun, wind and fence down the left-field line to make the grab; the second one happened in the second game, when Nebraska catcher Taylor Edwards went to her knees to record the out near the backstop. Pictured above is Wyoming’s new football field. It’s pretty sweet, isn’t it? The illustrations of the state’s Teton Mountains in both end zones is the headliner. Wyoming’s decision to include the iconic mountains in the end zones got me thinking: What thing synonymous with Big Ten towns/cities would be cool additions to Big Ten end zones? I asked the question on Twitter, and Big Ten fans responded.

President Barack Obama delivered the commencement speech Sunday at Ohio State’s graduation ceremony. Obama’s speech marked the third delivered by a sitting President at Ohio State, following George W. Bush (2002) and Gerald Ford (1974). We all know Urban Meyer can coach. But what about his golf game? Meyer and other big-name coaches hit the links Monday at the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Challenge – an event that paired BCS coaches with celebrity partners who competed for $20,000 in scholarship money for their respective universities.

Jack Hoffman continues to make people smile. It all started with the Nebraska fan and seven-year-old brain cancer patient’s memorable touchdown run in Nebraska’s Red-White Spring Game. It continued later that day, when Hoffman received the Game Ball from Bo Pelini.

Apparently, Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner and wideout Jeremy Gallon have some good chemistry and mojo. Check out this video posted by Gardner on his Twitter account of him hitting Gallon with a pass—with his eyes closed.

Weather has pounded much of the Midwest lately, and it’s impacted plenty of Big Ten sporting event schedules. If April showers truly bring May flowers, Big Ten country is in for some pretty big blossoms. Here’s a look at two images you may have missed. They were captured by BTN’s camera’s during Wednesday’s softball doubleheader between Michigan State and Ohio State in Columbus.

Nik Stauskas promised it on Twitter. On Wednesday, he delivered the goods. The Michigan guard put on another remarkable shooting exhibition (watch earlier one) on his outdoor court and posted the proof on YouTube. Once again, the sharpshooter drained trey after trey despite bad weather conditions. This time, Stauskas traded the cold for rain.

There are some tweets that are hard to believe at first glance. For example, Michigan athletic media relations intern Laura Raines’ tweet Wednesday. See the tweet in this post.

Indiana fans are going to miss Cody Zeller, the man they affectionately referred to as “The Big Handsome.” Zeller’s decision to forgo his final two seasons in Bloomington surely brought a tear to many an eye. Perhaps no one took the news harder than this very young Zeller fan.

Cammi Prantl had one of those catches players practice and hope to make when the lights are on in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader vs. Michigan State. With one out in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game, McKinzie Freimuth smacked a tailing liner down the left-field line. Innocent foul ball, right? Nope, Prantl, who had Freimuth positioned perfectly, read the ball off the bat and dove to make a terrific diving grab. Watch the play here.
