School-by-school: Big Ten's top BCS-era players

Goodbye, BCS. Hello, College Football Playoff. With the new playoff system set to debut this fall, I hit the rewind button and asked one beat writer from all 14 schools for his team’s top player of the BCS era. Here is what I got. * Responses are based on these writers’ personal opinions, and they are not speaking on behalf of the publication for which they write for. NFL Draft: Which B1G player is the most NFL-ready?

Big Ten football fans might want to catch Thursday’s NFL Draft as a flurry of Big Ten players are expected to come off the board early. Names such as Taylor Lewan, Darqueze Dennard, Ryan Shazier, Ra’Shede Hageman, Bradley Roby, Allen Robinson and Cody Latimer have all appeared in the first round of various NFL Mock Drafts. That got me thinking: Which of these former Big Ten standouts is the most NFL-ready right now? I debated that with our NFL Draft expert Russ Lande. NFL Draft: Where could Big Ten prospects land?

As dominant as both the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos were last season, no team in the NFL is perfect. Every organization has a need somewhere, and that is where the NFL Draft comes into play. Some of those needs will be filled by former Big Ten standouts such as Taylor Lewan, Darqueze Dennard and Ryan Shazier. But where will these budding stars call home? Here is a look at the top 10 Big Ten draft prospects and where they could land in next month’s NFL Draft. [ MORE: How this year’s Big Ten draft class stacks up to others

Dienhart: My top 10 Big Ten NFL draft prospects

We are inching closer to the NFL draft. And the Big Ten can only hope the 2014 draft is more fruitful than the 2013 draft. The Big Ten had just one first-round pick in 2013—and it didn’t come until No. 31 overall, when the Cowboys tabbed Wisconsin center Travis Frederick. And there were just four second-round selections: Purdue DT Kawann Short; Michigan State RB Le’Veon Bell; Ohio State’s Johnathan Hankins; Wisconsin RB Montee Ball. In all, the Big Ten produced only 22 draft picks, its lowest total since 1994, when it had 21 (and 11 teams, not 12). The prospects

Six B1G players in first round of ESPN Mock Draft

The snow has melted. Spring is here. And that means the much-anticipated NFL draft is just around the corner. ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. released his most recent NFL Mock Draft 4.0 this week, and there is plenty of Big Ten love. Six Big Ten players appear in the first round of the mock draft, led by Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, who he has going No. 6 overall to the Atlanta Falcons. “While (Greg) Robinson and Jake Matthews are both very good players and should be at the next level, there’s a case to be made that

NFL Combine Q&A: Charles Davis on Big Ten prospects

The NFL Combine wrapped up earlier this week. And the Big Ten was represented well as players tried to impress for the 2014 draft. I talked to NFL Network analyst Charles Davis to get his thoughts on some of the top Big Ten talent that was on display in Indianapolis. Last year, just one Big Ten player was selected in the first round when Wisconsin center Travis Frederick went at No. 31 to the Dallas Cowboys. Count on more Big Ten names getting drafted in the first round this year when the NFL Draft starts May 8 through May 10
