Before the NCAA banned on-court stickers, Tom Izzo and several of his fellow coaches made it known they weren’t fans of them. It’s not because the stickers resulted in an eye-sore, but because they were a slipping hazard and caused injury.
Ohio State and Nike like to break out new uniforms when the Buckeyes play rival Michigan. This year is no different. According to @11W, an Ohio State blog, the Buckeyes are expected to wear an all-white Nike “Rivalry” uniform in the latest installment of “The Game” on Nov. 30 in Ann Arbor. Ohio State has worn a home “Rivalry” uniform twice this season, vs. Wisconsin and Penn State.

Northwestern turned many heads when it released its new Under Armour patriotic alternate uniform a couple weeks ago. The Wildcats even had to apologize for a misconception regarding the design. Regardless of how one feels about the American flag being used as a decoration, the Wildcats and the Wounded Warrior Project signed off on the uniform, which will be auctioned off after the game.
Illinois will wear a new helmet that honors the military Saturday vs. No. 3 Ohio State. The helmet looks a lot like the Illini’s primary lid, only the logo features the state of Illinois instead of the usual “I.” Even better, there are 10 stars, in the shape of an “I,” inside the state logo to honor the 10 former Illinois player who have died in combat.

Four Big Ten football teams added an American flag-theme to their helmets Saturday to celebrate Military Appreciate Day. Iowa, Minnesota and Purdue all filled in its helmet logo with the American flag – the Hawkeyes only had the logo on the right side – while Indiana added an American flag logo to the back of its chrome candy stripe lid. It will be two alternate helmets in as many weeks for Purdue football. One week after debuting its highly anticipated black matte alternate, Purdue will go with a patriotic version of its primary lid Saturday vs. Iowa for Military Appreciation Day.
Northwestern will look a lot different when it plays Michigan on Nov. 16. That’s because the Wildcats will be ditching their familiar purple, white and black for a patriotic design. The look, designed by Under Armour, features a monochromatic gray uniform, with plenty of Red, White and Blue accents.

Purdue is going with a Black Out for today’s game vs. No. 4 Ohio State on BTN/BTN2Go. And, yes, that includes a new black matte alternate helmet. The Boilermakers went with a slow reveal of the helmet, decorated with train tracks down the middle, and didn’t debut it until they came out of the tunnel before kickoff. They warmed up in their primary lid.
A new basketball season is upon us. Before the ball tips early next month, let’s take a look at some of the new uniform and court designs we’ll see around the Big Ten this season. A little warning, there aren’t nearly as many changes this year as there were last, and that goes for both the uniforms and the courts.

This time, though, the Buckeyes will rock pink accents to promote breast cancer awareness. In other words, Ohio State will have pink gloves and pink socks. Expectations are high for Iowa men’s basketball this season. And why not? The Hawkeyes return every major contributor, except for Eric May, from a youthful and talented team that went 9-9 in Big Ten play and advanced to the NIT championship game. Here’s something else to get Hawkeyes fans excited: Iowa will wear new uniforms in 2013-14.
If you didn’t hear, Ohio State is wearing a Nike “Rivalry” uniform for tonight’s primtime battle vs. Wisconsin. It’s very similar to the “Pro Combat” uniform the Buckeyes wore in last year’s win over archrival Michigan. In fact, the only difference is the jersey collar, which features seven Buckeye Leaves, a new design for all Ohio State uniforms.

Nebraska football’s official twitter account, @Huskers, has announced that the team will wear a No. 36 decal on its helmet for Saturday’s game against UCLA. The decal is in honor of UCLA redshirt freshman wide receiver Nick Pasquale, who was struck by a car and killed this past weekend in his hometown of San Clemente, Calif. Pasquale was 20 years-old.
In case you haven’t heard, Nebraska will wear a new adidas alternate uniform Saturday vs. UCLA. The uniform includes a white helmet, with a black stripe down the middle, a two-tone facemask, a black jersey and white pants, with a black stripe down the side of the legs.
Rejoice, fans of outdoor hockey! Minnesota will host Ohio State on Friday, Jan. 17 at TCF Bank Stadium. The Gophers made the news official Tuesday, and they also released a rendering of the stadium. See a picture of it in this post.
Today is College Colors Day, the day when people across the nation dress in their college school colors to celebrate the beginning of a new college football season. To be fair, the season kicked off Thursday night, with Indiana and Minnesota rolling to victories, and it continues tonight. But it’s all about celebrating that first Saturday of the season on the last work day of the week.
With kickoff less than a week away, coupled with the fact Northwestern and Wisconsin both just unveiled new alternate helmets, it’s time to take one last look at all the different uniform and helmet designs we’ll see in the Big Ten this fall. Northwestern’s already vast helmet collection is growing. On Thursday, the Wildcats unveiled a white alternate lid that they will wear in the season opener at Cal. The new helmet brings Northwestern’s collection to five.
The Wisconsin football team unveiled a new alternate helmet Thursday that it will wear in Week 2 vs. Tennessee Tech and, possibly, for other games this season. The Badgers revealed the helmet to the players in a YouTube video that is included at the bottom of this post.
Ohio State hockey players have spoken, and they are fans of the school’s Buckeye Leaves. One look at the team’s new alternate jersey is all the proof one needs. The Buckeyes’ new sweater, voted upon by current and former players and unveiled Wednesday, features the popular logo all over it.
