Photos: Wildcats unveil new court design

Northwestern released the design for its new court at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Wednesday morning. The new floor is a much more classic look than the one the Wildcats played on the last two seasons. The biggest changes – other than the elimination of the crayola-like purple shade that didn’t match the midcourt logo – are the darker shade of wood, the Wildcat-less “N” midcourt logo and the addition of the Northwestern Stripe under both baskets. The latter is an excellent touch – just as it was on the school’s uniforms. Another small change: The “B1G” logo is moving from outside

Khaseem Greene changes number to honor Eric LeGrand

Rutgers product and current Chicago Bears linebacker Khaseem Greene is switching his number to 52 to honor former teammate and friend Eric LeGrand. Greene, in his second pro season, wore No. 59 as a rookie in 2013, but only because veteran Blake Costanzo wore No. 52. Now, the former Scarlet Knight gets to honor LeGrand, who was paralyzed in a 2010 game. Penn State: Helmet that went viral is 'office decoration'

Numbers on the sides of Penn State’s iconic helmets are hardly an unfamiliar sight; after all, the team sported the design until the late 1970s and did it again for a game in 2012 to honor injured star linebacker Mike Mauti. [ MORE: Like uniform designs? Check out our Clothes Call section ] Speculation that the numbers would return ramped up Monday, and into Tuesday morning, after freshman running back Nick Scott posted the photo above to Instagram. That’s Scott’s No. 24 on the side of the lid. [ MORE: Penn State recruit shaves Nittany Lion logo into head ]

Clothes Call: Rutgers football uniforms

Clothes Call: Maryland football uniforms

Welcome to the Big Ten, Maryland! Now that the Terrapins are an official member of the Big Ten, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the school’s much-talked-about football uniforms. Check out a photo gallery in this post that includes Maryland’s uniform of choice for every 2013 game. Outfitted by Under Armour, Maryland pretty much makes a statement every time it takes the field — or any playing surface, for that matter. Michigan's Blake Countess to wear Woodson's No. 2

Michigan’s official Twitter account, @umichfootball, tweeted out a link of the Wolverines’ updated 2014 football roster earlier today. Most noticeable on the roster is that redshirt junior cornerback Blake Countess will wear No. 2 this season. He previously wore No. 18. [ MORE: Where does Michigan Stadium land on Athlon Sports ranking? ] Of course, No. 2 belonged to former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, who played for the Wolverines from 1995-1997 and helped lead them to the 1997 National Championship. Badgers show off uniform combos at photo shoot

Here’s something you probably didn’t know (or care to add up): Wisconsin will have 20 possible uniform combinations this year. The Badgers showed off the designs Wednesday during their annual photo shoot. To be fair, many of the combinations aren’t that different, with the team boasting a primary white helmet and alternate red lid that can be mixed and matched with three facemasks (white, red and black). The Badgers did unveil a new combination Wednesday, and they seemed to hint that it could be in play this fall. [ MORE: Video: Northwestern hints at a new uniform combination, too ]

Purdue to put student photos on helmet vs. Iowa

Hey, Purdue fans, want to see your face on the Purdue helmet this year? You can make it happen. Really. Purdue announced Wednesday that students who buy a VIP card (PDF) by June 10 will have their face featured in a collage inside the “P” logo for the “Social Media Game” on Sept. 27 vs. Iowa. [ MORE: Check out our uniform-centric Clothes Call section ] This is a creative idea, one that can only increase student ticket sales and student interest. It’s a win-win. Only question is, will other teams copy the idea? Or, maybe, do the same with

Video: Wildcats get fancy in uniform feature

Northwestern has no shortage of uniform combinations. Under Armour revamped the team’s look prior to the 2012 season, and last year it introduced an all-white design. There’s countless helmets to go along with the three different jerseys and pants (white, black and purple). Basically, there’s no telling what Northwestern will wear from one Saturday to the next. Players love it. And, most importantly, recruits love it. Based on the Northwestern YouTube video above, we may see some new combinations in 2014. In the video, linebacker Collin Ellis says, “We’ve never done this before,” while wearing a black top and white
