On this season’s final edition of BTN Soccer Report, host Kevin Egan checks in with newly crowned national champion Indiana. Head coach Todd Yeagley and captain Caleb Konstanski discuss the program’s eighth College Cup crown and that thrilling final 1-0 win over Georgetown.

It’s all to play for in the Big Ten, as yet again the so-called ‘experts’ got it all wrong! Four teams now have regular season hopes, after Penn State, Northwestern and Indiana all failed to win. The highlight of last weekend’s games was the performance of Jay Chapman up front for Michigan State.

Just when you thought the Big Ten was a straight forward two-horse race, Penn State and Michigan produce heroics and throw huge spanners in the works! Aron Hyde and I predicted wins for Indiana and Northwestern on last week’s BTN Soccer Report, and it seemed like a logical assessment. But from a neutral’s standpoint, it’s a great thing that we were so wrong.

Is it Halloween already, because I witnessed some freaky stuff on Big Ten pitches over the weekend! Northwestern moved to 3-0-0 in conference play, thanks to a goal that will haunt John Bluem for some time. As a defender, one of the first things you are taught is never, and I mean NEVER, let the ball bounce inside the six-yard box. Central defenders are tall for a reason – it’s their duty to attack crosses with passion and to take responsibility, and that didn’t happen at Lakeside Field.

It’s halftime, if you will, so let’s review. It seems crazy, but we’re halfway through conference play already. So with that being said, I think it’s suitable to sit back and reflect on where each of our seven teams is at this point. See my first-half analysis for every Big Ten team in this post.

What a cracking weekend for Big Ten men’s soccer! We had three bruising encounters with plenty of quality and goals, and all three games went to overtime.

Normality prevailed this past weekend as Indiana and Northwestern got their conference seasons off to a winning start. However, the standout result of the weekend was Penn State’s impressive road win at Wisconsin.
