Former Fab Five member Juwan Howard played a total of three minutes through the first three games of Miami’s Eastern Conference semifinal series against Indiana. The Wolverine product made his biggest contribution of the series prior to Game 4 on Sunday, when he confronted Indiana’s Lance Stephenson during shootaround. The two needed to be separated. Watch the video of Howard confronting Stephenson.
While growing up in the 1990s, many of my friends were Michigan and Florida State football fans. Living in Lake Forest, Ill., the Michigan allegiance was understandable — even though none of my friends had ties to the school despite the vast number of Michigan alums residing in Chicago suburbs. But Florida State? Not so much.
Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson and other NFL rookies had a Topps photo shoot Saturday. Naturally, in the world we live in today, he tweeted photos from the shoot. Thanks, Russell. Get your first look at Wilson in the much-talked about new Seattle Seahawks uniform in this post.
If you’re looking for Roy Roundtree on the field next season, you won’t find him in his familiar No. 12 jersey. Michigan announced Friday that Roundtree will wear Desmond Howard’s No. 21 “Michigan Football Legend” jersey for the 2012 season. The jersey includes a patch on the upper left chest that honors the Michigan legend and Heisman Trophy winner. See a picture of the patch in this post.
Nick Mangold is an entertainer, no doubt about it. If you follow the former Ohio State center on Twitter (@nickmangold), you know this all too well. Mangold took his likable ways to another level on Tuesday night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. If you missed it, let’s just say his upper body is a lot smoother. That’s right, Mangold had his chest waxed on national tv during a skit called “Wax On, Wax Off.” It looked painful — nothing an NFL player can’t handle, though — and, wow, was it funny. Watch the videos of the hilarious segment.
The 17-member 2012 College Football Hall of Fame class was announced Tuesday, and former Purdue running back Otis Armstrong was the lone Big Ten product inducted. That being the case, there were several glaring omissions, highlighted by Nebraska’s Tommie Frazier and Ohio State’s Orlando Pace. Both snubs sparked quite a reaction on Twitter, and rightfully so. Frazier went 33-2 and won two national titles and four Big 12 championships, while Pace is one of the most dominant offensive lineman of all time. See the tweets in this post.
ESPN released the pairings for the 2012 ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Monday afternoon. The Big Ten has won the past three events, including a resounding 8-4 victory last season, this after losing each of the first 10 years. The 12-game Challenge will be played Nov. 27-28 this season. Check out all the matchups, get your Challenge history and see BTN.com Brent Yarina’s predictions in this post.
The final stop on our Twitter Tips series takes us to Wisconsin. It was a long, fun journey (see all the lists), but now it’s time to turn our attention to the guys who tweet about the Badgers. Our goal with this 12-installment project was simple: to share some of our favorite school-specific Twitter accounts with the fans. Without further delay, let’s get to the Wisconsin handles.
One draft expert, ESPN’s Todd McShay, fell in love with Mike Martin before the 2012 NFL Draft. Apparently, the Tennessee Titans were fond of him, too. Tennessee selected the former Michigan defensive tackle in the third round of last week’s draft. Martin’s YouTube account, GoMikeMartin, chronicled the defensive tackle’s draft party, and it includes its share of raw emotion. Watch the video now and see more all-access draft videos in this post.
Based on the rivalry’s previous hardware, the new Cy-Hawk Series Trophy couldn’t be anything but an improvement. On Tuesday, the new trophy was selected in a landslide vote. And, as expected, it will look a lot better hoisted above players’ heads than its predecessor. The trophy, which received 8,002 of the 10,282 votes (78 percent), features both mascots, corn stalks and a football. The base includes both logos and a list of previous season winners. See the new trophy and the old one in this post.
