He transferred from LSU where he was a two-year starter, sat out 2010-11 and has proceeded to be the top player on a Cornhusker squad that recently ended a four-game losing skein with an impressive 80-57 demolition of Illinois Prior to arriving in Lincoln, Spencer averaged 14. 5 points as a junior at LSU in 2009-10 and 11.4 as a sophomore, so scoring always has been a specialty for the 6-2 native of Baton Rouge, La., who transferred after failing to meet […]

While I wait for some Big Ten team – any Big Ten team – to take charge of this way-crazy, makes-no-sense Big Ten race, it’s time for this week’s 3-pointers from a cornfield somewhere outside Decatur, Illinois, on I-72. Check out my latest mailbag and drop me a note, read my Q&A with Ohio State’s William Buford, and let me know what you think of the season so far in the comments box at the and of this column. I also plan to attend and cover Wisconsin at Illinois on Sunday, and who knows how that one could go?
It’s another light week for college basketball with many students enduring finals, and the Big Ten is no different. Still, we got a few interesting games last night that are worth discussing, plus the quiet period provides us a nice chance to catch up on some individual player stats. Let’s jump right in. Minnesota continues to impress without Trevor Mbakwe, as it handled Central Michigan by 20 points. The Gophers are now 5-0 since the ill-fated Dayton game, but that in itself isn’t much of a story–after all, they’ve only faced one decent team in that stretch. Instead, let’s take a […]

Indiana’s Christian Watford wasn’t the only Big Ten men’s hoops player beating the buzzer in Saturday’s action. Nebraska’s Bo Spencer hit a buzzer-beater, as well, and while he didn’t win the game with his shot, it sure gave the Huskers plenty of momentum in their come-from-behind victory at TCU.
