(AP) The Rose Bowl has agreed to a 12-year extension with ESPN that will keep the game on the network through 2026. ESPN President John Skipper, Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott and Rose Bowl officials announced the deal Thursday. Skipper called the Rose Bowl “one of sport’s most meaningful” events.

The Michigan football team announced Wednesday updates to the non-conference schedules for the 2014-16 seasons and the future schedule with Notre Dame. The highlights: Appalachian State, which upset Michigan in the 2007 season opener, will return to Michigan Stadium for the 2014 opener and Michigan will play its first Thursday night game, at Utah in the 2015 opener.

The Big Ten and ACC announced Tuesday the matchups for the 2012 ACC/Big Ten Women’s Basketball Challenge, set for Nov. 28-29, 2012. This year’s challenge marks the sixth year of the event, which has been extended through 2016.

Both the 2015 and 2016 schedules will feature all 12 teams in action the opening weekend and the last two Saturdays of Big Ten competition, while two teams will have byes during each of the other six weekends.

The 2012 Big Ten Rowing Championships take place Sunday at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. This year marks the second consecutive that the event has taken place at the course, and the event will return to Eagle Creek Park again in 2013. The 2012 Big Ten Rowing Championships are a seven-lane, finals-only event.  Ohio State enters the event as defending champion after taking an 18-point margin of victory over second-place Michigan. The Big Ten Network is the home for complete coverage of Big Ten spring championships in May, televising events in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s golf, rowing, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. Each of these events will be produced in high definition.

Michigan State Athletics Director Mark Hollis announced Tuesday that the Spartans have agreed in principle to a home-and-home football series with Pac-12 power Oregon. The two-game series will kick off Sept. 13, 2014, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore., and conclude Sept. 12, 2015, at Spartan Stadium.

The Big Ten wants to give northern teams a better shot at the NCAA tournament where teams from warmer climates tend to dominate.

The Big Ten Conference announced the bracket on Sunday for the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, with conference champion Penn State earning the No. 1 seed and one of four first-round byes. The tournament is set for Thursday-Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, previously known as Conseco Fieldhouse. BTN and BTN2Go will air the tournament’s first 10 games, starting with No. 7 Michigan-No. 10 Illinois at 11:30 a.m. ET Thursday. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m. ET Sunday.

Both all-session and single-session tickets for the 2012 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 27. The tourney runs March 8 -11 and all of the games are at the Fieldhouse.

At least 27 Big Ten softball games will be broadcast on BTN this season, with a minimum of 66 additional games streamed on the digital network. A select number of streamed baseball and softball games will be televised on delay through BTN’s Student U initiative.
