The Big Ten office announced the conference schedule for the 2014 football season today, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2014 schedule will consist of eight games for each of the Big Ten’s 14 teams, feature a new division alignment, include the conference debut of Maryland and Rutgers and culminate with the fourth annual Big Ten Football Championship Game.

Big Ten teams strengthen football schedules

The Big Ten has said that it wants schools to beef up their non-conference schedules. Well, so far, so good. Michigan is the latest school to add a marquee non-conference foe. Today, the school announced a home-and-home series with Virginia Tech in 2020 and 2021. The schools have met just one time, with the Wolverines beating the Hokies, 23-20, in the Sugar Bowl after the 2011 season.

Big Ten announces inaugural conference hockey slate

The Big Ten office announced Wednesday the dates and opponents for the inaugural 2013-14 Big Ten hockey season. The schedule features 60 games, with all six schools – Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin – playing 20-game schedules.

BTN unveils 2013 primetime football schedule

BTN will televise 12 primetime games during the 2013 college football season, the most in network history. Five games feature a pre-season top-25 Big Ten team, while three of the 12 matchups feature games versus teams from the SEC, ACC and Pac-12 conferences. Eight Big Ten schools in all will be featured in primetime.

“Primetime games are becoming more and more popular,” said BTN President Mark Silverman. “Featuring compelling matchups in primetime allows BTN to remain front and center in Big Ten and college football fans’ minds throughout the entire day,” he said.

Nebraska and Iowa athletic departments, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, announced Tuesday afternoon that the Iowa-Nebraska game, originally scheduled for Thursday night, has been moved to 2 p.m. ET Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Dienhart: Dropping FCS foes makes total sense

Talking on his radio show last night, Wisconsin A.D. Barry Alvarez said that Big Ten A.D.s have agreed to stop scheduling FCS schools in the future. Alvarez gave no indication on when Big Ten schools would stop playing FCS foes. But, it can’t happen soon enough in what often are little more than glorified scrimmages.
