The outright Big Ten title was there for the taking for Indiana and the Hoosiers blew it—on Senior Night, no less—falling 67-58 to Ohio State. It was Indiana’s lowest point total of the season. Gotta start the daily links there. Yes, the Hoosiers still have a share of the Big Ten title even if they lose the regular-season finale at Michigan on Sunday. (Heck, IU players actually cut down the nets last night in what had to be the most awkward moment of the season.) But an IU loss on Sunday would open the door for Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio […]

It’s Senior Night tonight in Bloomington, as Jordan Hulls, Christian Watford and Derek Elston will play their final games in venerable Assembly Hall. So, I’m gonna start daily links there. A big part of this annual rite is speeches by the seniors. And these speeches figure to be emotion-packed, given what these three seniors have witnessed in their time at Indiana. Just a reminder: Right after the Ohio State-Indiana game, BTN/BTN2Go will have live coverage of the Hoosiers’ Senior Night festivities from Assembly Hall. The night could be even more memorable for the Hoosiers with a win over Ohio State, as it would […]

Michigan’s fall from grace has been swift and stunning. In their last seven games, the Wolverines are 3-4. Big Ten title and NCAA No. 1 seed dreams basically vaporized in that shock-the-world loss at Penn State. Before things careen totally out of control, Trey Burke insists changes are needed for a team that 28 days ago was No. 1 in the nation. But I’m not sure how much can be changed at this point. It’s March 1, for crying out loud! The two chief issues for Michigan: toughness and defense. A terrific offense often masked defensive deficiencies earlier this season.
Please forgive John Beilein if he doesn’t want to get out of bed this morning. You see, his No. 4 Michigan team suffered arguably the biggest upset of the college season last night, falling 84-78 to a Penn State squad that was 0-14 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines were done in by a variety of issues. Trey Burke felt a lack of heart was the culprit in a defeat that likely kills any hope the Wolverines had of winning a share of the Big Ten title for a second season in a row. And a No. 1 seed in […]

In fact, it seemed like the roof was about to blow off the place as Minnesota pushed its way to a stunning 77-73 win over No. 1 Indiana. That’s why my daily links starts right there. Credit Trevor Mbakwe, who led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds and also provided much-needed leadership in dominating Cody Zeller. Where has this been during Big Ten play? Indiana coach Tom Crean says the Golden Gophers were more physical than the Hoosiers. He’s correct—no, he’s VERY correct.
Should Indiana be on upset alert tonight when it plays at Minnesota? Hmmm. Maybe. Let’s start daily links there. The Hoosiers withstood a furious Minny rally to take an 88-81 victory back in January. But the Golden Gophers are struggling, having lost eight of the last 11 games and dropping their last two by an average of 23.5 points. Conversely, the Hoosiers are rolling, ranked No. 1 in the nation and winners of nine of 10. And with two more victories, Indiana will clinch at least a share of its first Big Ten title since 2002.
