The 2000s saw plenty of great players in the Big Ten. One, in fact, won the Heisman: Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith (2006), who arguably is the top player from the 2000s. Over the next couple days, I’m going to take a look at the best of the best in the Big Ten since the calendar flipped to 2000. First up: Offense.
The Big Ten announced Tuesday its 2013 All-Big Ten teams and individual award winners. Big Ten champion Indiana was well represented, as it took home Pitcher of the Year (Aaron Slegers) and Coach of the Year (Tracy Smith). Illinois’ Justin Parr was named Player of the Year and Kevin Duchene earned Freshman of the Year honors. See the teams in this post.

We are halfway through the Big Ten season, and the conference hasn’t disappointed. All of that preseason hype about being the top conference has proven to be true, with Indiana and Michigan already haven taken turns sitting atop the national polls.

With every Big Ten team having played at least nine conference games, we’ve reached the midway point of the Big Ten season. It’s been a fantastic race thus far, with Indiana one game ahead of the pace, and it should only get better.

And just like that, it’s time for the Big Ten season to tip. It was a highly successful nonconference season, with the Big Ten owning the national polls. We have even more to look forward in the coming months, however, as many feel this could be one of the better conference races in recent history. The Big Ten Conference released the 2012 All-Big Ten Football Teams on Monday night during the “All-Conference Selection Show,” and the list also includes a number of position award winners. In addition to these awards, remember that “#BTNLive” will release the following winners at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday: Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year, Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year, Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year (coaches vote) and Dave McClain Coach of the Year (media vote).

BTN announced the 2011-12 All-Big Ten Men’s Basketball Teams live on Monday night. Michigan State star Draymond Green was the only unanimous first-team player and also won Player of the Year from the coaches and the media, while Green’s coach, Tom Izzo, claimed both Coach of the Year honors. As for the highly debated Freshman of the Year laurel, Trey Burke (media) and Cody Zeller (coaches) were both selected. Let the debate continue!

The 2011-12 All-Big Ten Women’s Basketball Teams were announced live on BTN on Monday night. Ohio State’s Samantha Prahalis, Minnesota’s Rachel Banham and Penn State’s Coquese Washington were named player of the year, freshman of the year and coach of the year, respectively, by both the coaches and media. (BigTen.org) PARK RIDGE, Ill. – The Big Ten announced its postseason volleyball awards on Tuesday, with student-athletes from two schools earning recognition following the conclusion of the 2011 regular season. Purdue’s Ariel Turner has been named the Big Ten Player of the Year by a vote of the conference’s coaches, while Boilermaker head coach Dave Shondell has been tabbed Coach of the Year by Big Ten coaches and media. Penn State’s Katie Slay and Micha Hancock have also earned individual honors, as Slay has been selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Hancock takes the Freshman of the Year award.
