Here's one topic mentioned every time your team plays

Watch a conference enough, and you can’t help but notice that every team has a common theme that gets mentioned in every broadcast. Chances are, you know your team’s topic of conversation. But what about the rest of the Big Ten teams? Here’s my recurring subject for every Big Ten team.

Photo: Aaron Craft & Shavon Shields stick out tongues

We don’t think this is quite what Michael Jordan had in mind when he popularized sticking out his tongue on the basketball court. Either way, how great is this shot of Nebraska’s Shavon Shields and Ohio State’s Aaron Craft? Classic, right?

Survey says: Big Ten's toughest player

Toughness. It’s needed in any sport to be successful. And there are many definitions of toughness, which is displayed in various ways. Show me a successful team—and I’ll show you a tough team. Knowing that, I asked some writers who cover Big Ten hoops teams who they felt is the “toughest” player in the conference.

BTN contributor Mike DeCourcy and Sporting News coworker Ryan Fagan recently teamed up to create their midseason All-American Teams. Video: Aaron Craft saves ball, takes out cheerleader

Another Ohio State game, another opportunity for Aaron Craft to amaze fans with his all-out hustle. While the latest example came in Sunday’s home loss vs. No. 20 Iowa, Craft’s effort to save a ball under his own basket can’t be ignored. Not only did he save the ball, he went airborne – as he often does – and took out a cheerleader who was seated right under the basket. Watch the hustle play in this post.

Why do we love Aaron Craft? Watch these clips

Aaron Craft is as polarizing as any current college basketball player. It’s a known fact. But, if you watch him on a nightly basis, it’s really hard to understand how fans can dislike the four-year Ohio State point guard. His effort in Tuesday night’s overtime loss at No. 5 Michigan State is the perfect example. Craft made a trio of plays that, if nothing else, should make every basketball fan respect him.

Craft, roommates host Taco Tuesday for 1K students

When Ohio State senior Aaron Craft isn’t frustrating opponents or studying, there’s a good chance the polarizing Big Ten star is taking part in a Taco Night. On Tuesday night, Craft and his roommates hosted a Taco Tuesday, organized by the Office of Student Life, for 1,000 students in the Schottenstein Center.

Photo: Ohio State's Aaron Craft, as snowman

Aaron Craft already was a big deal prior to Sunday’s NCAA tourney performance against Iowa State. Add the late momentum-shifting charge and game-winning buzzer-beater to his record, and we’re dealing with a guy approaching icon status. Heck, Thad Matta wants a statue of Craft erected outside the arena. And local children must agree, because they’re building snowmen of Craft.

Big Ten Geeks: Champs

Indiana won the Big Ten championship outright by about half a Newton, as Jordan Morgan’s tip-in attempt was a hair too strong, allowing Indiana to complete a road comeback and dulling the festivities of the rest of the weekend. After a sluggish first half that ended with Michigan leading 33-30 (33 possessions), the two teams combined for 80 points in the second half (32 possessions). However, despite the fact that these two teams played a back-and-forth battle, I think the result raises more concerns about Michigan than Indiana.

Big Ten Geeks: Cupcakes aren't good for you

Any sober look at Iowa in the preseason would have put the team somewhere in the vicinity of the bubble. The team was coming off an 8-10 Big Ten campaign that, albeit one blessed with good fortune, portended good things to come with most of the roster returning this season.

Did You See This? Craft jumps over expensive seats

What is it about Aaron Craft’s style of play that makes so many respect him? Pardon the terrible cliches, but it’s that the Ohio State point guard gives 100 percent all the time and does whatever to help his team- even if it means he puts his body at risk. Craft showed these qualities in Tuesday’s win over Iowa, when he jumped over the first row of seats as he tried to keep the ball in play. Watch the play right now.
