Yarina: Big Ten title game offers plenty

This should be fun. The 2012 Big Ten Football Championship Game, that is. People will argue it’s not going to be much of a game, because it doesn’t feature the Big Ten’s top team – 12-0 Leaders Division champ Ohio State – it’s a rematch of a game earlier this season, and it includes a 7-5 Wisconsin team that has lost three of its last four. True. True. And true. Still, that’s not to say we should expect a dud Saturday night. For starters, let’s not forget the teams played to an entertaining 30-27 decision Sept. 29 at Memorial Stadium.

Friday's links: Gearing up for the B1G game

News of the Big Ten title game percolates, with kickoff set for 8:17 pm ET on Saturday in Indianapolis. One of the interesting stories is Wisconsin quarterback Curt Phillips, a fifth-year senior who will be making just his fourth career start. Read about that—and other conference grid news—in my daily links. Phillips’ story of perseverance and never giving up despite suffering multiple knee injuries is impressive. It’s quite a contrast to Nebraska counterpart Taylor Martinez, who emerged as a star as a true freshman and never has looked back. For either of their teams to win, they will need to

Debate it: Who plays for Big Ten title ... in 2013?

Nebraska and Wisconsin are set to meet in the 2012 Big Ten Football Championship Game on Saturday night in Indianapolis, and BTN.com’s Tom Dienhart and Brent Yarina are there to cover it. Given they’ve been debating topics here all season long, the two of them thought it would be fun to look ahead to the 2013 Big Ten title game. So, who will represent the Legends and Leaders a year from now? See what our guys say in this post, and vote for your matchup in this post. We’ve added a few tweets from fans stating their own cases, but

Dienhart: Scouting reports on Huskers, Badgers

The Big Ten title game is almost upon us, and who better to break down Nebraska and Wisconsin than coordinators from other Big Ten schools? I dialed up six Big Ten coordinators from both sides of the ball and talked off the record with the guys who watched film, prepared game plans and stared down each team on a Saturday this fall. I asked them for their frank, candid and unvarnished analysis of each team. Here is a collection of what they told me about each team. Mix & Matchup: Badgers vs. Huskers

Act Two of the Big Ten title game is almost upon us, but it will be difficult to top last year’s 42-39 sprint that Wisconsin won over Michigan State. Still, Wisconsin and Nebraska will try. Like last year’s Badgers-Spartans game, this year’s Badgers-Huskers game is a rematch of a scintillating regular-season meeting. On that Saturday night Sept. 29 in Lincoln, Cornhusker quarterback Taylor Martinez led Nebraska on four consecutive scoring drives in the second half to erase a 17-point hole to notch a 30-27 victory (watch the video in this post). In that game, Nebraska had 440 yards; Wisconsin had

Lucas Oil Stadium's field ready for Saturday

Three days away, the field at Lucas Oil Stadium is ready to host the 2012 Big Ten Football Championship Game on Saturday night. The B1G Championship Game logo has been added to midfield, the “B1G” logo to the 25-yard lines, and the school names to the end zones. See a photo, courtesy of @B1GFootball, in this post. Nebraska vs. Wisconsin: Title teams meet media

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema understands a lot of people believe his Badgers don’t deserve to be playing in the Big Ten championship game. Asked if he’s insulted by the sentiment, he says he’s not. “I appreciate the question and understand it totally,” he said Sunday. “I think there are 10 teams out there in the Big Ten that would love to be in the position Nebraska and we’re in right now. When the two teams take the field on Saturday, neither is going to care how the other team got there or what their record is.” Listen to Bret Bielema’s
