Looking forward to a great weekend of college wrestling highlighted by the Cliff Keen Invitational where five Big Ten teams will toe the line. But first a couple thoughts from this past week in the Big Ten. Rutgers jumped five spots to No. 11 in the Intermat dual meet rankings following a pair of victories at last Sunday’s “Grapple In The Garden” in New York City including a 21-13 win over Cornell. The Scarlet Knights are led by No. 3 Anthony Ashnault. The first ever undefeated, four time New Jersey state champion improved to 9-0 on the young season. I
Under sunny skies more than 42,000 fans watched No. 3 Iowa top No. 2 Oklahoma State 18-16 in Saturday’s outdoor wrestling match at Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium. The match was streamed live on BTN2Go (watch it here again) and the entire event will be replayed Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on BTN. With the Big Ten seeking its 10th consecutive wrestling national championship, BTN’s 2015-16 wrestling coverage, presented by returning sponsor Cliff Keen Athletic, will take fans along for the ride with some of the most noteworthy matchups of the season. The schedule includes the Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern; a key matchup between Ohio State and Penn State, winners of the past five national championships; the NWCA National Duals; and coverage of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships in Iowa City. Wisconsin will be the next Big Ten school to make a major apparel move. The University of Wisconsin-Madison announced a long-term partnership with Under Armour during a press conference on Friday afternoon. Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank announced a new 10-year partnership, which is set to begin July 1, 2016. Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo has seen more than his share of clutch performances and high-pressure situations. But even in his biggest games, there have been breaks in the action. In real emergencies, there are no timeouts, no commercials. That lesson — along with several others — was driven home for Izzo and other MSU coaches during a rather unusual team-building exercise at an annual Athletics Department retreat in early June.
