Iowa's Brands Lands 5-Year Deal

Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands signed a five-year contract to continue as head coach of the Hawkeye wrestling program through 2016-17. As Iowa’s head coach since 2006, Brands went on to win three NCAA championships from 2008-10. The Hawkeyes have won three conference titles in his six seasons while crowning 10 Big Ten and seven NCAA individual champions. Read more at Hawkeyesports.com.

Penn State Scores 2nd Straight NCAA Title

Penn State won its second straight NCAA wrestling tournament before the final round and senior Frank Molinaro, sophomore David Taylor and sophomore Ed Ruth won individual crowns. Penn State led by 15 points after the morning session, and a vocal fan base mostly concentrated in one corner of the Scottrade Center showed support with a whiteout, then chanted “We are Penn State!” after the final match. The Nittany Lions’ 143 points topped second-place Minnesota (117.5), Iowa (107.5), Cornell (102.5) and Ohio State (68.5). You can read more at NCAA.com.
