No. 2 seed Ohio State topped No. 5 seed Illinois, 2-1, to win the program’s third Big Ten Tournament title Sunday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. With the victory, Ohio State (16-4-1) tied the 2004 team for the longest win streak in program history at nine. Illinois shut out top-seeded Penn State 1-0 in Friday’s first semifinal of the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament, then Ohio State edged Michigan 2-1 in the second game on BTN/BTN2Go. No. 4 Penn State claims 15th straight Big Ten crown

The fourth-ranked Penn State women’s soccer team clinched the 2012 Big Ten Championship after earning a 1-1 draw against Michigan on Sunday. The title marks Penn State’s 15th straight Big Ten crown, the most consecutive titles by a Big Ten women’s program in any sport. The win also clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Bloomington, Ind. Michigan’s Holly Hein tore her ACL in 2010, then in 2011 just as she was about to return to the soccer field, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and missed the season, but has undergone successful treatment and returned to the field this fall.
