Michigan fell to No. 3 seed Texas, 3-2, in the first semifinal of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament tonight, then top-seeded Penn State was upset by Oregon, 3-1, in the second semifinal. The Big Ten landed two schools in the Final Four of the 2012 NCAA women’s volleyball tournament, as Michigan takes on No. 3 seed Texas at 7 p.m. ET before top seed and Big Ten champion Penn State faces No. 5 seed Oregon at 9 p.m.
In volleyball action on Friday night, Minnesota beat Nebraska in five sets (12-25, 25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 19-21). The Gophers win puts them in a tie with Nebraska for second place in the Big Ten. The second-ranked Penn State volleyball team, led by Ariel Scott and Deja McClendon, improved to 24-2 overall and 14-1 in the Big Ten with a straight set win over Illinois on Thursday night.
The Purdue women’s volleyball team gets a five set win on the road over Illinois, 3-2 (26-24, 20-25,21-25,25-20,15-9).
