Penn State wins record-tying sixth NCAA title

In the first all-Big Ten NCAA volleyball title match, No. 2 Penn State took down rival and No. 12 Wisconsin, 3-1, Saturday night in Seattle. The national championship marks Penn State’s fifth in the last seven seasons and sixth all-time, which ties Stanford for the most titles in NCAA women’s volleyball history. Ariel Scott led the Nittany Lions with 21 kills, while Megan Courtney and Katie Slay added five blocks apiece. An unprecedented seven Big Ten teams entered last weekend with dreams of reaching the Final Four. After the last whistle Saturday night, two still remained, as Penn State and Wisconsin advanced to Seattle for the national semifinals. Volleyball Report: B1G poised to make noise in NCAA

After an unpredictable year that saw possibly the strongest collection of teams in conference history, the postseason has finally arrived. The Big Ten tied a conference record on Sunday when, for the fifth time in league history, eight teams were selected to the NCAA Volleyball Championship. Penn State took the second overall seed in the bracket, with Nebraska following a No. 8, Minnesota No. 10, Wisconsin No. 12 and Illinois earning the No. 13 seed.
