Purdue Volleyball Sweeps Michigan State

With Twitter aflutter and a national television audience tuned in, the No. 13 Boilermaker volleyball team swept Michigan State 3-0 Friday night, moving to 12-0 to start a season for the first time since 1985 (13-0). Nebraska Holds Off Penn State for Win

Playing its first match as a member of the Big Ten, No. 10 Nebraska outlasted four-time reigning national champ and No. 5 Penn State in five sets (25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25, 15-10) Wednesday in front of a sold out crowd at the NU Coliseum. Gina Mancuso led Nebraska with 22 kills and added 10 digs en route to tallying her fifth double-double of the season. Morgan Broekhuis also had a double-double, the second of her career, and Lauren Cook notched 53 assists. Tonight on BTN: Penn State at Nebraska

As if the competition of the Big Ten wasn’t a big enough adjustment, the Nebraska volleyball team also must adapt to a new schedule in its first season in the Big Ten. Unlike the Big 12, Nebraska’s previous conference, the Big Ten plays its weekend conference games on back-to-back nights, Friday and Saturday. It’s something that will take some getting used to. Penn State Puts Away Long Island

The fifth-ranked Penn State women’s volleyball team (5-3) earned a 3-0 (29-27, 25-8, 25-13) victory against Long Island (3-8) on Friday evening. Sophomore Deja McClendon (Louisville, Ky.) led the team with nine kills on .438 hitting, while sophomore Ariel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Katie Slay (Raleigh, N.C.) had eight kills each. Freshman Aiyana Whitney (Norwood, N.J.) rounded out the top hitters with six kills on .500 hitting. Michigan State Sweeps Ball State

The Michigan State volleyball team (9-1) continued its home win streak with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-18) sweep over Ball State on Friday night inside Jenison Field House. The win marked MSU’s fifth straight at home, and fourth straight in 2011. Senior Becca Zlabis and sophomore Kelsey Kuipers led MSU at the net with two solo blocks each. “The team did a real nice job tonight in making adjustments,” MSU coach Cathy George said. “When we began to struggle in the first and second sets, they rallied together to take care of business, the way a veteran team should.”
