Indiana women’s soccer head coach Mick Lyon announced he is retiring as the head coach of the women’s soccer program. In his 11 seasons  at Indiana, Lyon went 95-98-21 and is  202-163-39 for his career. Read more at IUHoosiers.com. This year’s Big Ten soccer season will certainly be remembered for its parity. You know you have a well-rounded, well contested league when a No. 5 seed plays a No. 3 seed for the title.

No. 5 Michigan State defeated No. 3 Michigan, 2-1, in overtime Sunday afternoon in Evanston, Ill, to claim the 2012 Men’s Soccer Big Ten Tournament Championship. Seven minutes into the extra frame, Sean Conerty found the back of the net to give the Spartans the win and their third Big Ten Tournament title.

The Big Ten men’s soccer tournament continues today in Evanston, Ill., with two semifinal matchups set for this afternoon. Penn State fell to Michigan State 3-1 in the first semifinal. The second semifinal, Michigan dropped Northwestern 3-0.

The 2012 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament got underway Wednesday at Lakeside Field. No. 5 Michigan State, No. 3 Michigan and No. 2 Northwestern all advanced to Friday’s semifinal action, beating No. 4 Indiana, No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 7 Ohio State, respectively.
