What would it be like to grow up in Canada and never travel outside of the country until your first college recruiting visit? That was the case for Ohio State junior Tanner Fritz, who is a member of the Buckeyes’ men’s ice hockey team. Fritz was born and raised in Alberta, Canada and became interested in Ohio State through his cousin, Daymen Rycroft (Bencharski), who played for the Buckeyes from 2001-04. Frozen Friday Q&A: Penn State's Tommy Olczyk

What would it be like growing up as the son of a well-known NHL Hockey player? Just ask Penn State sophomore Tommy Olczyk, who is one of the top players on Penn State’s men’s ice hockey team. Olczyk is the son of former NHL standout Ed Olczyk, who played 16 years in the NHL, helping the New York Rangers capture the 1994 Stanley Cup. Ed currently serves as a color commentator on  NHL on NBC, NHL on NBC Sports Network and for the Chicago Blackhawks on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Tommy is enjoying a successful sophomore season for the Nittany Lions.

No. 1 Minnesota takes down Penn State, 5-2

The top-ranked Minnesota men’s hockey team padded its lead atop the Big Ten standings by downing Penn State, 5-2, at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa. Monday night. Sam Warning snapped a 14-game goalless drought with a pair of goals to guide the Gophers to a series sweep in the first-ever conference series at the new PSU hockey facility. With the victory, Minnesota moved to 5-0-1-0 in league play and now sits four points ahead of second-place Wisconsin. The 15-3-2 overall record the program’s third-best through 20 games.
