What would it be like to grow up in Canada and never travel outside of the country until your first college recruiting visit? That was the case for Ohio State junior Tanner Fritz, who is a member of the Buckeyes’ men’s ice hockey team.
What would it be like growing up as the son of a well-known NHL Hockey player? Just ask Penn State sophomore Tommy Olczyk, who is one of the top players on Penn State’s men’s ice hockey team. Olczyk is the son of former NHL standout Ed Olczyk, who played 16 years in the NHL, helping the New York Rangers capture the 1994 Stanley Cup. Ed currently serves as a color commentator on NHL on NBC, NHL on NBC Sports Network and for the Chicago Blackhawks on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
The top-ranked Minnesota men’s hockey team padded its lead atop the Big Ten standings by downing Penn State, 5-2, at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa. Monday night. Sam Warning snapped a 14-game goalless drought with a pair of goals to guide the Gophers to a series sweep in the first-ever conference series at the new PSU hockey facility.
One of these days, new Penn State football coach James Franklin will get to relax and catch up on some sleep. Not yet, though, as Franklin has engagement after engagement on campus and plenty of people to meet. On Monday night, the former Vanderbilt coach took in the hockey game vs. No. 1 Minnesota.
