With a nickname like “The Unicorn,” Mike Shawaryn has to be quite the talent. The Maryland starting pitcher is just that. Ask the hitters he’s aced, if you don’t believe it. Those hitters are batting .203 vs. the Maryland right-hander, and they’ve nearly struck out once per inning (.93 Ks per inning). His other 2016 stats look like this: 4-4, 3.33 ERA. Big Ten announces extension of baseball tournament in Omaha

With the Big Ten Baseball Tournament set to return to Omaha, Nebraska, this season and 2018, the conference announced an extension for TD Ameritrade Park to serve as the host venue from 2019 through 2022, it was announced Tuesday.

Injured Kyle Schwarber gets loud ovation in Cubs home opener

Former Indiana catcher Kyle Schwarber had so much to look forward to heading into the 2016 MLB season. Not only was it going to be his first full season in the bigs, but he was expected to be one of the key cogs in helping the Chicago Cubs end their much-talked-about and historic run of futility. Sadly, in just the third game of the season last week, the slugger tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee in a scary outfield collision at Arizona. Schwarber won’t play again this season, instead spending the summer and fall rehabbing the knee.

The Indiana first baseman recorded a highlight out Saturday afternoon vs. rival Purdue, hauling in a foul ball before falling over the fence and into the visitor’s dugout. What a catch, huh?
