Indiana seals second straight outright Big Ten title

For the second consecutive season, Indiana is the outright Big Ten champion. The Hoosiers, who owned a share of the conference title entering the final series of the season, wrapped up the outright crown Friday night by virtue of Illinois’ victory over second-place Nebraska. Indiana did its part, too, knocking off Minnesota, 7-3, later in the night to tally its 20th Big Ten win. “To be able to do it two years in a row, that’s pretty special,” Indiana head coach Tracy Smith said. Tom Crean threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Minnesota-Indiana baseball game Thursday night. The Hoosiers, who were looking to clinch their second consecutive outright Big Ten title, lost a 2-1 decision in extra innings. Indiana can wrap up the outright crown with a win Friday or Saturday. Ohio State’s Josh Dezse hit his first home run of the season in his final at-bat Saturday. On Sunday, he homered his first two times up to make it three straight plate appearances with a home run. According to @OhioStae_BASE, Dezse is the first Ohio State player to homer in consecutive at-bats since 2011. Dezse, who finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, was intentionally walked his next time up.
