Video: Indiana's Yogi Ferrell drains career-high 7 treys

Want to talk about an efficient day? Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell had one of the more efficient performances you’ll ever see in Sunday afternoon’s 63-52 victory over No. 14 Michigan. Ferrell scored 27 points on just 10 shots, thanks in large part to a career-high seven 3-pointers. The star sophomore finished 7-of-8 from distance and 8-of-10 overall, plus he hit four free throws. How about these wild Big Ten finishes?

Both of the Big Ten’s early Saturday games came down to the wire and were won by the visitor by one point following last-second misses from the home team. In the first game, Sam Dekker missed a would-be game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in No. 13 Wisconsin’s loss vs. No. 23 Ohio State. No doubt about it, Shannon Scott has struggled during Ohio State’s recent Big Ten slide. The junior guard came off the bench for the first time this season Saturday at Wisconsin, and he just so happened to help lead the Buckeyes to a 59-58 road win. Oh, and he also tallied one of the best assists you’ll see all season. Let’s just say, Scott caught Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky by surprise on his dime to Trey McDonald. What was Bo Ryan’s reaction to Northwestern draining 6-of-10 3-pointers in the second half of Wisconsin’s 65-56 loss Wednesday night at the Kohl Center? Stunned would suffice. Ryan simply couldn’t believe that the Big Ten’s worst 3-point shooting team got so hot from distance, and he was especially shocked that big man Alex Olah, who entered the night 2-of-13 from 3, hit a trey. Prediction: D.J. Newbill won’t soon forgot his performance in Wednesday night’s win at No. 23 Ohio State. Not only did Newbill score a game-high 25 points, but he hit the game-winner with 1.9 seconds left in overtime to help the Nittany Lions snap their 18-game losing streak to the Buckeyes. Travel or no travel on Keith Appling's drive for layup?

If you ever wondered if a player could pick up his dribble from outside the 3-point arc and get to the hoop for a layup without being called for traveling, he can. Keith Appling did it in Tuesday night’s overtime win at Iowa, and the no-call didn’t sit well with Iowa fans or Fran McCaffery; in fact, McCaffery was hit with a technical foul. ESPN commentator Jay Bilas said this about the play: “It’s hard to believe, but I think that would have been a walk in the NBA.”

Nik Stauskas and Michigan had plenty of reasons to celebrate following their rivalry win at No. 3 Michigan State on Saturday night. Not only did the decision hand Michigan State its first loss and give Michigan sole possession of first place, it marked the team’s third consecutive win over a top 10 team, with two of the wins coming on the road. So, how did Stauskas celebrate? By blowing a kiss to the Breslin Center crowd after the final buzzer.

Video: Nnanna Egwu uses floor mop to retrieve ball

Illinois and Ohio State had their share of misses from the field Thursday night. After all, the Illini shot 41 percent and the Buckeyes came in at 42 percent in the 62-55 Ohio State win. But there was one miss that neither team – nor anyone watching – will forget. That, of course, would be Lenzelle Smith Jr.’s 3-pointer in the second half that got stuck on top of the backboard. The ball remained there until Illinois big man Nnanna Egwu, with the help of a floor mop, jumped up at knocked the ball loose. Watch the scene in this post.
