Video: Nik Stauskas hits 'cold-blooded' trey at Wisconsin

Nik Stauskas has hit a lot of big shots in his year-plus at Michigan. That said, he hasn’t hit many bigger than the clutch 3-pointer he nailed in the final minute Saturday at No. 3 Wisconsin. Up one point and with just under a minute left, Stauskas went between the legs and drained a trey to help Michigan tally its first win in Madison since 1999. Watch the pretty shot in this post.

It’s not rare to see teams slap the floor as a group as they set up on defense vs. Duke. It’s a Duke thing, after all, and teams aren’t shy about mocking the tradition when they play the Blue Devils. Who says you can’t also do it vs. former Duke products? New Northwestern coach Chris Collins played for Duke and also spent 13 seasons there as an assistant, so perhaps that’s why the Spartans all slapped the floor early in Wednesday’s game.

How do fans celebrate their team snapping a 12-game losing streak to a rival and sending said opponent to its first loss of the season? The answer for Indiana fans Tuesday vs. Wisconsin was by storming the court. Kind of. After Indiana held off No. 3 Wisconsin, which entered the game 16-0, the fans didn’t seem to know what to do. The result was a half-hearted court storming.

Michigan's Derrick Walton Jr. sinks half-court shot

Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr. hit the kind of shot on Thursday night that kids dream about when shooting hoops in their driveway growing up. The Wolverines’ freshman point guard took one dribble and heaved a half-court shot at the halftime buzzer, which swished through the basket and put the Wolverines up 33-30 over Nebraska heading into the half.

Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery was not happy with the officials Sunday night, and he let the crew knew about it during a timeout in the second half of Sunday’s loss at Wisconsin. It appeared that McCaffery was upset about a foul being called on the previous play when Iowa forward Gabe Olaseni was whistled for a hand check foul on Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes.

So Wisconsin’s Nicole Bauman had a pretty big shot in the Badgers’ game against Green Bay on Monday. With her team trailing 55-52, the sophomore guard tied up the game with a long jumper with just 0.2 seconds left in the second half. The shot forced the game into overtime.

How often do you see a 7-footer make a successful behind-the-back pass? It doesn’t happen a lot, but it did Sunday in Iowa City. Iowa sophomore Adam Woodbury got fancy in transition vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and found Aaron White for a powerful dunk. Michigan State honored the football team’s seniors during a first-half timeout of Tuesday night’s game vs. North Florida. The seniors, the leaders of the 2013 Big Ten championship team and the first Spartans team to make the Rose Bowl since 1987, were recognized at midcourt. The Stagg Trophy was there, too. To no surprise, the Breslin Center faithful showered the seniors with applause.

Video: Gary Andersen denied timeout request

If you missed it Saturday, Gary Andersen wasn’t exactly thrilled that he and the Badgers weren’t granted a timeout seconds before Penn State snapped the ball and scored a touchdown late in the second quarter. Leading 14-7 and with Penn State deep in Wisconsin’s red zone, Andersen noticed a mismatch on the outside and sprinted down the sideline to call a timeout. The officials ignored the timeout request, and Christian Hackenberg hit Geno Lewis for an easy 3-yard scoring strike. See the play in this post.
