Iowa quarterback James Vandenberg and Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, joined Dave Revsine, Howard Griffith and Chuck Long on Tuesday night’s “#BTNLive.” Watch our interview with Vandenberg now and catch Ryan’s in this post. Spartan QB Maxwell breaks down Iowa on '#BTNLive'

Like all quarterbacks, Michigan State’s Andrew Maxwell watches his share of game film. He’s taken in plenty on Iowa, this week’s opponent, and on Tuesday’s “#BTNLive,” host Dave Revsine asked him what he’s seen. Maxwell’s thoughts: “Iowa’s interesting to watch on film, because they don’t do many things, but what they do do they do very well.” The junior also showed a strong knowledge of Iowa’s defensive philosophy and recent lineage.

#BTNLive talks extensively with Tom Osborne

Tom Osborne has had what the soft-spoken former football coach might call “an eventful week.” On Tuesday the Nebraska legend announced his retirement as athletic director at the school where he racked up three national titles as the Huskers football coach. Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio joined “BTNLive” Tuesday night, and the head coach was much more talkative than the last time we saw him in front of the camera. O'Brien: 'It's going to be a very tough football game'

On Thursday, Dave Revsine and our analysts Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith talked to Penn State’s Bill O’Brien during the latest episode of “#BTNLive” as Penn State prepares for Temple on Saturday. The Nittany Lions’ first-year football coach talked about many things, including the differences between preparing for games in the NFL and in college football. Part of the conversation focused on Penn State’s offense. “At the end of the day, there have been times when we run the ball pretty well,” O’Brien said. “We’ve shown signs of being able to run the football.” Watch the interview in this post.

#BTNLive is a new live one-hour radio show that started this week and it also airs as a TV simulcast twice a week on BTN. Featuring a variety of guests, our panel discusses the Big Ten topics of the day, and the first week of the show was a busy one. Tonight at 7 p.m. ET, Rick Pizzo and Gerry DiNardo are joined by guest Penn State great Ki-Jana Carter with reports from Chris Martin at Iowa-Iowa State and Rob Blackman at Purdue-Notre Dame.

Venric Mark visited #BTNLive, added to Team Room Wall

Venric Mark accounted for 281 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yard punt return, in Northwestern’s 42-41 win at Syracuse last week. His reward: A cool image of himself from the game on a wall of the Northwestern team room. Mark’s picture was placed on the wall because he won Northwestern Player of the Week, and each ensuing honoree will be added every week.

The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry is a heated one, to be certain, and the last thing it needed was fuel added to the fire. The rivalry may have been taken to another level Saturday night. You see, during Michigan’s 41-14 season-opening loss to reigning national champ Alabama, Michigan State players went to Twitter and tweeted critical comments about Denard Robinson and the Wolverines. #BTNLive: Kawann Short sets record straight on name

There’s an interesting trend going on with star Big Ten football players. It all started when former Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure revealed in the days leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft that people had mispronounced his name all along. Enter the 2012 Big Ten season, and there are three more pronunciation changes: Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, Minnesota’s Troy Stoudermire and Purdue’s Kawann Short. Kirk Ferentz talks Iowa State, Cy-Hawk Trophy

Despite the result, last year’s Iowa-Iowa State rivalry game was one of the more exciting Big Ten games of the 2011 season. The two rivals meet again Saturday afternoon, and we’ll have it on BTN/BTN2Go. Iowa has won the last four games between the two rivals at Kinnick Stadium, however it’s Iowa State who brings the Cy-Hawk Trophy into Iowa City. On Tuesday night’s “#BTNLive,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz stopped by to discuss the new Cy-Hawk Trophy and Saturday’s game.
