It’s a good thing the Michigan State baseball team wasn’t scheduled to play at home this weekend, because McLane Baseball Stadium was under water. That’s right, Mother Nature flooded the Spartans’ entire complex. Turns out, snow and unplayable field conditions wiped out Michigan State’s three-game series at Minnesota, so it didn’t really matter after all. Watch a quick video of the scene at the stadium here. Michigan hires Bakich, 34, as baseball coach

Dave Brandon announced Wednesday that Maryland’s Erik Bakich has been hired as Michigan’s new baseball coach. Bakich, the 19th head coach in program history, spent the past three seasons at Maryland, where he compiled a 70-90 record. The Wolverines open at 4:30 p.m. ET in the Louisville regional against Kentucky, and yopu can find lot of good softball stuff on the team’s page at MGoBlue.com. BTN, Big Ten Baseball to hit Target Field

Minnesota and Penn State will be the latest Big Ten baseball teams to play in a MLB stadium when the Gophers and Nittany Lions open a three-game series in Minneapolis. They’ll play indoors at the Metrodome on Friday and Sunday but Saturday’s game airs at 3 p.m. ET on BTN live from Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins.Earlier this season, Illinois faced Missouri at Busch Stadium in St. Louis (see video in this post).
