Five Big Ten softball teams earned NCAA tournament berths Sunday night, led by Minnesota, which won the Big Ten Tournament championship and earned the No. 16 overall seed. The other Big Ten teams include Big Ten regular-season co-champs Michigan and Nebraska, plus Northwestern and Wisconsin. The five teams mark the conference’s most since 2009. Sam Macken had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh to lead No. 3 Minnesota to a 3-2 victory over No. 1 Michigan in the Big Ten Softball Tournament championship game. The victory marked the second Big Ten softball title in program history, and the first since 1999.

The Big Ten announced the 2014 All-Conference Teams and individual award winners on Wednesday. Michigan’s Sierra Romero captured Player of the Year honors for the second straight season, while Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen became the first Golden Gopher to collect both Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season. Nebraska’s Rhonda Revelle was tabbed the Big Ten Coach of the Year.

The Big Ten conference announced the 2014 Big Ten Softball Tournament bracket on Sunday, with Michigan earning the No. 1 seed after clinching a share of its 18th conference championship. Nebraska, which secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament, also earned a share of its first Big Ten title after completing a three-game sweep of Indiana on Sunday.
