If you look at the NCAA Division I rankings for any collegiate sport, chances are you’re going to see multiple Big Ten universities in the mix. They’re also well-represented in another ranking: the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American awards. The list, which came out earlier this month, measures student-athletes across all sports, as of June 2015. Eight Big Ten universities made the top 25 for all-time honorees, more than any other conference, with Nebraska coming in at No. 1. Here are the Big Ten universities that made the list: 1. The Big Ten placed 17 standouts on the 2015 AP All-America Team, released Sunday. First-teamers Taylor Decker (Ohio State), Jack Allen (Michigan State), Carl Nassib (Penn State), Desmond King (Iowa) and Vonn Bell (Ohio State) pace the Big Ten representatives. Eight Big Ten schools had at least one player recognized, headlined by Ohio State (5) and Michigan State (3). Indiana, Michigan and Iowa all had two players receive laurels. Earlier on BTN, Penn State held off Louisiana-Monroe in its return to Rec Hall, No. 6 Maryland cruised past Maryland Eastern Shore, and Indiana topped McNeese State. In other Big Ten men’s basketball action: Ohio State lost to Connecticut, Michigan cruised by Delaware State, Wisconsin came up short against Marquette, Illinois got by UIC, Purdue beat Youngstown State, Rutgers fell to George Washington, and Michigan State remained unbeaten with a win over Florida. At the University of Wisconsin, everybody plays. That’s the philosophy of the Division of Recreational Sports, which works with the kinesiology department to integrate athletic opportunities for students of all abilities. They created Badgers ADAPT, a program that provides adaptive and Paralympic sports, events and activities.
