Big Ten women’s soccer teams took to the field on Wednesday night.  Michigan State wasted no time in taking the lead of Wednesday evening’s game against Western Michigan, scoring just 63 seconds into the game and preserving that lead to hold on for the 1-0 victory over the Broncos. Several Big Ten teams took to the volleyball court and soccer pitch on Friday night. Penn State volleyball came out with a five-set win over Standford, while the Purdue women’s soccer team scored a 2-0 win over Tennessee-Martin. The Big Ten announced its 2012 women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll and players to watch list on Tuesday, with defending regular season champion Penn State earning top honors among the 12 conference teams. The Nittany Lions enter the season as the conference favorites after winning their 14th straight Big Ten title in 2011.

CHICAGO – BTN will televise more soccer this season than ever before, with at least 60 matches set to air on BTN, including for the first time each round of the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Soccer Tournaments. Each BTN broadcast is also available on BTN2Go.

The weekend saw several of the conference’s soccer and field hockey teams in action. Senior keeper Jeremy Clark tallied his fourth shutout of the year and red-shirt freshman Ryan Keener headed in the game’s only goal as Michigan State (6-7-4, 2-2-2) took back the Big Bear Trophy with a 1-0 victory over rival Michigan.
