Big Ten coaches voted defending Big Ten champion Nebraska as the conference favorite for the 2012 season, it was announced Thursday. Earning the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship last season, the Huskers top the poll for the first time as members of the Big Ten.
CHICAGO – BTN will televise more volleyball this season than ever before, with at least 50 matches set to air on BTN. The season begins with defending Big Ten Champion Nebraska hosting 2011 National Champion UCLA and Stanford at Penn State in the season’s first two weeks. The games will also be available at BTN2Go.

(BigTen,org) The Big Ten will be well-represented at the 2011 NCAA Volleyball Championship, as eight conference teams have been selected to the tournament’s field of 64 for the second consecutive season. The University of Iowa volleyball team dropped a five-set decision to 10th-ranked Purdue Thursday night inside Halloway Gym (22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-6). Iowa threatened to sweep the Boilermakers, grabbing leads of 8-5 and 14-13 in the third frame, but Purdue ran away from a 15-15 tie with 10 straight points to win set three, 25-15. The Boilermakers then built an early 10-3 advantage in the fourth set and eventually held on for another 25-15 decision to force a decisive set five. Purdue women’s volleyball team earns their 6th win of the season leading them to tie for 3rd place in the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday night against Illinois, 3-1 in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 21-25).
