Who took home softball honors?

The Big Ten Conference released its latest Big Ten Softball Players of the Week for Feb. 13-19 action on Monday. See who was honored and find out what they did to earn the distinction in this post. Player of the Week: Lindsey Rains, Purdue, So., OF, Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union Hit .556 and combined for an OPS of 1.603 to help Purdue to a perfect 4-0 start to its season last weekend. Was 5-for-9 from the plate, had multi-hit efforts against Northern Colorado and New Mexico and had a perfect on-base percentage in Purdue’s season opener against Bryant Finished the weekend

TV times, dates for 2012 Big Ten Softball

At least 27 Big Ten softball games will be broadcast on BTN this season, with a minimum of 66 additional games streamed on the digital network. A select number of streamed baseball and softball games will be televised on delay through BTN’s Student U initiative. Big Ten softball season opens Thursday

The 2012 Big Ten softball season is set to begin this week with 10 teams taking to the diamond on the opening weekend of play. Nebraska opens the season on Thursday, while Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State begin on Friday, and Minnesota opens its season on Saturday. Wisconsin begins the new year on Feb. 17, and Purdue opens its season on Feb. 18. Four conference teams received votes in one or both national preseason polls.
