It’s time to release my latest Big Ten men’s hoops power rankings. The rankings are not meant to mimic the Big Ten standings. What fun would that be? They aren’t scientific, either. Five Big Ten men’s basketball players have been named candidates for the Bob Cousy Award, handed out annually to the nation’s top collegiate point guard. The list includes Michigan’s Trey Burke, Ohio State’s Aaron Craft, Penn State’s Tim Frazier, Purdue’s Lewis Jackson and Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor. See the complete list of candidates here.
The Gene Keady coaching tree is scratching its head after last weekend. Both Purdue and Illinois lost, and lost in ways that have been all-too-familiar to fans of those teams. The Boilermakers started out well enough, nearly running Butler out of the gym in the first half: But it was a different story in the second frame:

It was a busy Saturday of Big Ten men’s hoops, with nine teams in action. The Big Ten went 7-2, headlined by No. 20 Indiana moving to 10-0 with a win over Notre Dame (recap). Also victorious, Iowa took down Drake (recap), Nebraska dropped Alcorn State (recap), No. 23 Michigan State topped Bowling Green (recap), Northwestern held off CCSU (recap), No. 18 Michigan blew away Alabama A&M (recap) and No. 2 Ohio State rallied past South Carolina (recap).
